Swimming Set to Compete in New York at the NEC Championships

Loretto, Pa. - The Saint Francis swim team heads to New York for the Northeast Conference Championships. Saint Francis was picked fourth in the NEC preseason coaches poll after finishing fourth in each of the last four seasons. "We are excited for the upcoming NEC championship" head coach Rory Coleman said, "it's always a fun time to see swimmers swim fast and blow away their expectations."
 

Saint Francis returns five of the top team scorers from last years conference meet, including the top-two scorers Karilyn Quon (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol) and Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen). Quon returns to action this week after scoring the most team points at the 2017 NEC meet.
 

Quon is ranked in the top-10 in five events heading into the meet. Quon's top ranking comes in the 400 Individual Medley, where she is ranked third with a time of 4:29.76. Quon is also ranked sixth in the 1000 Freestyle (10:42.24), eighth in the 200 Individual Medley (2:07.80) and 1650 Freestyle (17:40.68), and tenth in the 200 Backstroke (2:05.46).
 

Lafferty returns to the NEC meet for her final conference appearance. Lafferty is ranked in the top-5 in four different events this season. Lafferty is ranked fourth in both the 50 Freestyle (23.78) and 100 Freestyle (51.76). She is also ranked fifth in the 100 Backstroke (57.21) and 100 Butterfly (57.20).
 

Emma Karell (Norrtälje, Sweden/Täby Swim Club) and Sabrina Bowman (Vandergrift, Pa./Saint Joseph's) are each ranked in the top-10 in one event heading into NECs. Karell is ranked tenth in the 1650 with a time of 17:57.57. Bowman is ranked fourth in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 57.05.
 

The four day conference meet is being held at the Nassau County Aquatics Center in East Meadow, New York. Action begins Wednesday night at 6 p.m., starting with the 200 Individual Medley Relay and the 800 Freestyle Relay.
