GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Saint Francis Softball team scored five runs in the top of the seventh to earn a 7-2 win over East Carolina on Sunday at the Pirate Invitational.  The Red Flash went 4-1 on the weekend and now has a 9-6 overall record.  ECU dropped to 6-9 on the season.

Sophomore Abby Trahan (Kaplan, La./Kaplan) made the start for the Red Flash.  She threw a complete-game for her sixth win of the year.  She allowed two runs on six hits.  Trahan struck out four and did not walk a batter.  She retired 11 of the final 12 batters she faced.

Freshman Erin Poepping started in the circle for the Pirates.  She went six innings, allowing five runs on nine hits, while walking one and striking out three.  Ashley Cruise replaced Poepping to start the seventh inning and allowed a walk and a hit, with both runners eventually scoring.  Mary Williams finished the game, walking one and striking out two.

The Red Flash tallied seven runs on 10 hits.  Junior Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) led the way with three hits, including two doubles, and two RBI.  Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) added two hits, including a double, and two RBI, while Madison Cabell (Ivor, Va./Southampton) hit a two-run homer, her team-leading fifth of the year.  Jordan Seneca (Plum, Pa./Plum) had an RBI single and scored two runs.

East Carolina collected two runs on six hits.  Kendra Ziemba contributed two hits and two RBI, with Karlie Smith and Meredith Burroughs each collecting a single and a run.

The Pirates took a two-run lead in the bottom of the fourth.  Back-to-back singles by Smith and Burroughs setup a bunt by Ashley Weingartz, which resulted in all runners being safe.  Two batters later, Ziemba hit a fly ball to left that carried to the warning track to allow Smith and Burroughs to score and give ECU a 2-0 advantage.

The Red Flash answered with two runs in the top of the fifth.  Kassidy Troxell (Navarre, Ohio/Perry) lined a double down the left-field line to begin the inning.  A groundout by Brianna Walker (Walworth, N.Y./Gananda) moved pinch-runner Brittney Crawford (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan) to third.  Seneca, pinch-hitting, followed with a grounder through the left side to plate Crawford.  A groundball by pinch-hitter Ashley Sheetz (Hampton Township, Pa./Hampton) moved Seneca to second before Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) crushed her second double of the game, this time to left, to bring home Seneca.

Saint Francis took the lead in the top of the seventh.  Seneca drew a four-pitch walk to start the inning.  MeKenzie Saban (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) then dropped down a bunt and beat the throw to first for a single.  With runners on first and second, a double steal moved Seneca to third and Saban to second.  Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) then lined a single to left to plate Seneca.  Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) followed with a single to right-center to allow Saban and Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) to score.  Cabell then battled through a long count before sending a fly ball off the batter's eye beyond the center-field wall for a two-run homer to give SFU a 7-2 lead.

The Red Flash travels to Oklahoma for its Spring Break trip, starting next weekend at the Mizuno Classic, hosted by No. 18 Oklahoma State.  SFU opens the tournament on Friday, March 2 with matchups against Omaha (12 p.m. ET) and Maine (2:30 p.m. ET).  The tournament continues on Saturday with games vs. Maine (12 p.m. ET) and Omaha (2:30 p.m. ET), before wrapping up the tournament on Sunday against Oklahoma State at 1:30 p.m. ET.
