STILLWATER, Okla. – The Saint Francis Softball team bounced back from a tough 11-inning, 7-6 loss against Omaha to earn a 4-1 win over Maine on Friday during the first day of the Mizuno Classic, hosted by Oklahoma State. The Red Flash is now 10-7 this season.

The Red Flash continued its strong season in the circle, allowing only two earned runs all day.
Abby Trahan (Kaplan, La./Kaplan) threw 14.2 of the 18 innings played on Friday and struck out 22 batters, including a career-high 14 strikeouts in game one.

Saint Francis' 11 inning loss against Omaha was its longest extra-inning game since a 15-inning contest against Robert Morris in the 2016 NEC Tournament.

SFU hit three homers on Friday, bringing its season total up to 17, with solo homers by
Mikayla Bower (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport),
Madison Cabell (Ivor, Va./Southampton) and
Jordan Seneca (Plum, Pa./Plum). Cabell leads the team with six dingers this year.

The Red Flash continues the Mizuno Classic on Saturday with matchups against Maine (12 p.m. ET) and Omaha (2:30 p.m. ET). The classic finishes on Sunday against No. 23 Oklahoma State at 2:30 p.m. ET.

Game 1 – Omaha
Sophomore
Adrian Smith (Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) started in the circle in game one. She went three innings, allowing five runs, one earned, on five hits and four walks. Smith struck out two batters before Trahan replaced her after three batters in the fourth inning. Trahan had a very impressive performance in relief, throwing the final 7.2 innings. Trahan struck out a career-high 14 batters, tied for the 16th-most in a Division I game this year. She allowed just two runs, both unearned, on just two hits and did not walk a batter. Trahan retired 15 of the final 16 batters she faced.

Junior Laura Roecker got the start for the Mavericks. She threw three innings, giving up four runs on eight hits, without walking or striking out a batter. Aubrey Hacke replaced Roecker to start the fourth inning. Hacke fired the final eight innings, giving up two unearned runs on three hits and two walks, while striking out eight.

Saint Francis tallied six runs on 11 hits.Â
Mikayla Bower (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) and
Jordan Seneca (Plum, Pa./Plum) each homered in the second inning. Bower had two hits and two RBI, while
Hayley Norton (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) had two hits and an RBI.Â
Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) and
Madison Cabell (Ivor, Va./Southampton) each had two hits and
Kassidy Troxell (Navarre, Ohio/Perry) drove in a run.

Omaha scored seven runs on seven hits and was aided by four SFU errors. Emily Klosterman led the Mavericks with two hits and three runs. Kallie Pattison and Crystal Pablo each registered two hits and two RBI.Â

The Red Flash jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second. On the first pitch of the inning, Bower crushed a fly ball over the wall in center. It was Bower's third homer of the year. Two batter later, Seneca sent a 1-0 pitch over the fence in left-center.  Seneca collected on her first homer of the season.

Saint Francis added two runs in the top of the third.Â
Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) lined a double to right center to leadoff the inning.Â
Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) followed with an infield single to short. Two batters later, Troxell hit a soft liner to left to bring home McKee. Bower followed by lining a 2-2 pitch off the wall in left as Troxell scored from first.Â

Omaha cut its deficit in half in the bottom of the third. Klosterman led off the inning with a bunt single and stole second during the next at-bat. Two batters later, Pablo hit a grounder through the right side to allow Klosterman to cross the plate. A walk drawn by Faith Romero setup Demi Dobbs, who reached on an error. With the bases loaded, a wild pitch allowed pinch-runner Hacke to score. SFU held a 4-2 advantage after three innings.

The Mavericks took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. The first three batters of the inning reached on an error, a fielder's choice and an error. Pattison then reached on an infield single, in the deep hole at second, which scored Natalie Mostek and Jessica Nelson. Pablo followed with a single to center to plate Klosterman. Omaha led 5-4 after four innings.

The Red Flash tied the game with two outs in the top of the seventh. Cabell led off the inning with a single up the middle. Pinch-hitter
Halle Marion (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) dropped down a bunt and Cabell beat the throw to second. After a fielder's choice at third and a strikeout, Seneca hit a pop fly the tipped off the shortstop's glove and landed just outside of the pitcher's circle to allow Marion to score from second.Â

Saint Francis took the lead in the top of the ninth. Due to international tiebreaking rules starting in the ninth inning, Cabell was placed on second to begin the inning. A grounder by Troxell moved Cabell to third. Two batters later, Norton lined a 1-0 pitch to the gap in left center to plate Cabell. SFU held a 6-5 lead going to the bottom half of the inning.

Omaha tied the game in the bottom of the ninth. Pinch-hitter Lexi Burchfield laid down a bunt that resulted in a fielder's choice, moving pinch-runner Hailey Bartz to third. Demi Dobbs then hit a groundout to second to allow Bartz to score and tie the game at 6-6.

The Mavericks won the game with a run in the bottom of the 11th.  Klosterman began the inning on second and moved to third on a bunt by Hacke. Two batters later, a passed ball allowed Klosterman to score.

Game 2 – Maine
Abby Trahan (Kaplan, La./Kaplan) got the start in game two and tallied another solid performance for her seventh win of the season. Trahan threw a complete game, allowing just one run, a walk and six hits. She struck out eight batters. Trahan retired nine of the final 10 batters she faced.Â

Molly Flowers started in the circle for the Blackbears. She threw two innings, allowing three runs on a hit and three walks, while striking out two. Flowers was replaced in the third inning by Lilly Volk, who threw a scoreless frame before Kyleigh O'Donnell came on in the fourth. O'Donnell went two innings, giving up a run on two hits and two walks, while striking out two. Annie Kennedy threw the final two innings, allowing just one hit and striking out five batters.

The Red Flash collected four runs on four hits.Â
Madison Cabell (Ivor, Va./Southampton) hit a solo homer in the fifth, while
Hayley Norton (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) added a two-run double. Sierra and
Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) each had a single and a run.

The Blackbears had a run on six hits. Meghan Royle led the Maine offense with a solo homer. Rachel Carlson, Erika Leonard, Laurine German, Emily Gilmore and Sarah Coyne each had a single.

Saint Francis crossed the plate three times in the top of the first. Sierra and
Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) led off the game with back-to-back singles. A flyout by Cabell pushed the runners to second and third before a wild pitch scored Sierra from third.Â
Kassidy Troxell (Navarre, Ohio/Perry) followed with a walk. Two batters later, Norton lined a double to center to plate Cheyenne and Troxell.Â

The Red Flash added a run in the top of the fifth. With two outs, Cabell hit an 0-1 pitch over the wall in right center. Cabell's team-leading sixth homer of the season gave Saint Francis a 4-0 advantage.

Maine got a run back in the bottom of the sixth. After a strikeout to begin the inning, Royle hit a 1-1 pitch over the fence in left. SFU led 4-1 after six innings.
