LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis Women's Tennis team visits New York City for a pair of matches this weekend. The Red Flash takes on St. John's on Friday at 9 p.m. at the National Tennis Center in Queens. SFU meets St. Francis Brooklyn for its NEC opener on Sunday at 9 a.m.
The Red Flash, led by Head Coach
Rob Castille, is 1-8 this season. Saint Francis resumes action after a two-week break following its 5-2 setback against Youngstown State.
Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School) earned a singles win at No. 4, while
Nastasia Tamarkin (Washington, D.C./School Without Walls) picked up a win at No. 5. Tamarkin and
Laura Gutierrez (Bogota, Colombia/Cibercolegio UCN) combined for a win at No. 1 doubles.
Tamarkin was named the NEC Rookie of the Month on March 8 for her performance so far this season. Tamarkin is tied for the team lead with a 5-3 record this Spring, playing all of her matches at No. 5.
Miller is also 5-3 this Spring, with all of her matches coming at No. 4. Junior
Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School) owns three wins at No. 3 and Gutierrez has two wins at No. 2. Sophomore
Lucia Seigford (Madrid, Spain/Mirasur) has a win at No. 1.
Gutierrez and Tamarkin have combined for a 4-4 record in doubles, playing all of their matches at the top position. Miller and Seigford have paired up for a 2-2 mark at No. 2.
St. John's has an 8-3 record this season. The Red Storm owns wins over Fairfield (7-0), LIU Brooklyn (5-2), Marist (6-1), Buffalo (4-3), Fordham (4-3), Charleston (4-3), Fairleigh Dickinson (7-0) and Hofstra (5-2). St. John's plays Villanova at Noon on Friday before taking on Saint Francis.
St. Francis Brooklyn is 1-8 this Spring, with an 0-2 mark in NEC play. The Terriers picked up their first win of the season, 7-0 against Saint Peter's, last Sunday. SFBK dropped a 5-2 decision to Wagner and a 7-0 result against LIU Brooklyn earlier this season in NEC action.
