Flash Points
- Marialena Seletopoulou (Glyfada Athens Greece/Yannopoulos School) scored two goals against nationally ranked Indiana.
- Eight different Red Flash players scored Sunday.
Highlights
- Indiana got off to a fast start scoring three goals out of the sprint. The Red Flash fell behind 4-0 before a Seleopoulou goal put Saint Francis on the board. Indiana tallied another goal to make it 5-1 when the first period ended.
- The second period was a meat grinder of exclusions and defensive play with the exception of the minute where the only three goals of the period were scored. Indiana took the resultant 7-2 lead into halftime.
- A Missy McCreary (Altadena, CA/LaSalle (Citrus College)) goal in the third period cut the deficit to 10-5 but the Red Flash would get no closer as the Hoosiers finished off the game on 5-0 run to win 15-5.
- Against Bucknell, Saint Francis came strong on the defensive front holding the Bison to one goal in the first seven minutes. A quick flurry of offense netted the score at 3-1 Bucknell as the first period clocked out.
- Halfway through the second period, Ani Aghakhanian (La Crescenta, Calif/La Valley College) scored one of the niftiest goals ever seen on the water polo circuit with a circus shot behind her back. The Stokes Natatorium crowd responded with thunderous applause.
- The rest of the second period was not as kind to the Red Flash as the Bison led 10-4 entering the third.
- The third period saw Bucknell punish the nets with five goals to take a 15-5 advantage.
- The reserves were given the fourth period as their time to shine and they responded accordingly. Shelby Sanko (McAdoo, PA/Hazelton Area), Krysta Ponek (Panama City Beach, Fla./Arnold (Utica College)) and Gabrielle Garritson (Houston, Texas/Clear Lake High School) all scored goals along with Argentina Bonilla (Los Angeles, Calif/Birmingham (LA Valley College)) to finish the scoring at 15-9.
Notes
- Kate Wilke (Burbank, Calif./Burroughs) earned 22 saves, many of which were spectacular, in the two games.
- Kelly Fehr (Erie, Pa/Villa Maria Academy) and Marialena Seletopoulou (Glyfada Athens Greece/Yannopoulos School) were given special defensive interest as both potent forces drew four exclusions apiece against Indiana.
