LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis Women's Tennis team is set for two NEC matches this weekend. The Red Flash takes on Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday at 6 p.m. and LIU Brooklyn on Sunday at 3 p.m.
The Red Flash, led by Head Coach
Rob Castille, is 3-9 overall and 2-0 in the NEC after a 5-2 win over Sacred Heart last weekend. Saint Francis collected singles wins from
Lucia Seigford (Madrid, Spain/Mirasur) at No. 1,
Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School) at No. 3,
Nastasia Tamarkin (Washington, D.C./School Without Walls) at No. 4 and
Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School) at No. 5.
In doubles, the Red Flash earned wins at the top two spots to claim the doubles point. Gutierrez and Tamarkin picked up a 6-0 win at No. 1 and Bode and Seigford won, 6-2, at No. 2.
Miller and Tamarkin share the team lead with seven singles wins this Spring. Miller is 7-4 in dual matches, with a 5-3 mark at No. 4, while Tamarkin is 7-4, with five wins coming at No. 5. Bode has five wins at No. 3, while Seigford and Gutierrez have three wins each at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.
Gutierrez and Tamarkin have combined for a 6-5 mark at No. 1 doubles, while Bode and Seigford are 3-2 at No. 2.
Fairleigh Dickinson is 0-9 overall, with an 0-1 mark in the NEC. Last week, the Knights fell 6-1 against Bryant and 7-0 at Drexel. Marta Ruszczynska has three wins this Spring, with two coming at No. 3. Patricia Eftenoiu and Ruszcyznska have one win at No. 1 doubles.
LIU Brooklyn is 9-3 this season, including a 2-0 record in NEC play. The Blackbirds own wins over St. Francis Brooklyn, Saint Peter's, UMass, Hofstra, Bryant, Fordham, NJIT, Palm Beach Atlantic and Seton Hall. Last week, the Blackbirds fell 4-1 at Columbia but bounced back for a 4-3 win over Seton Hall. Jennifer Gogova leads the team with a 7-0 mark in singles. Anna Grigoryan is 6-1 at No. 1, while Jessica Brzozowska is 6-2 in dual matches. Sasha Bollweg and Brzozowska are 7-2 in doubles this Spring, with a 5-2 mark at No. 1.
