Philadelphia, Pa. – The Saint Francis field hockey team (3-9, 1-2 A-10) fell to La Salle (6-6, 3-1 A-1) on Friday by a score of 3-2.
The entire match was back and forth. After one quarter, the score was still nodded at zero with a 5-0 La Salle shot advantage.
The Red Flash struck first in the match. In the second quarter, Agustina Deharbe (Buenos Aires, Argentina/St. Catherine's Moorlands) took a shot from the right side and beat the La Salle goalkeeper to give Saint Francis a 1-0 lead. The goal was Deharbe's fifth of the season and second consecutive match with a goal. The Red Flash carried its 1-0 lead into halftime.
Six minutes into the third quarter, a shot by Samantha Olton (Diego Martin, Trinidad/Providence Girls Catholic) found the back of the net and the Red Flash went up 2-0. Olton's goal was her first of the season. Four minutes later, La Salle answered with a goal of its own. The teams headed to the fourth quarter with the match 2-1 Saint Francis.
In the fourth, La Salle outshot Saint Francis by seven. With just under eight minutes remaining, the Explorers tied the match at two on a goal by Kelsey Jones. Three minutes later, La Salle broke the tie and took the lead 3-2. The match concluded with a 3-2 final.
Goalkeeper Claudia Marzec (Whitinsville, Mass./Moses Brown School) made 11 saves on the day.
Deharbe, along with her goal, registered a team-high two shots.
