Red Flash Drops Conference Match With Richmond

Richmond, Va. – The Saint Francis field hockey team (4-12, 1-5 A-10) fell to conference opponent Richmond (9-7, 5-2 A-10) on Friday in a nail biter, 2-1.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Red Flash began the scoring two and a half minutes into the second quarter. Samantha Olton (Diego Martin, Trinidad/Providence Girls Catholic) inserted a corner to Taylor Nesmith (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley), who grabbed the attention of the Spiders defenders and passed it to Livvy Webb (Easton, Md./Saints Peter and Paul), who took the ball and rocketed a shot to the back of the net to give Saint Francis the 1-0 lead. With six minutes remaining in the half, Richmond evened the score on a goal of its own to send the teams to halftime tied 1-1.

In the third quarter, the Spiders broke the tie with five and a half minutes remaining. Richmond took a 2-1 lead into the fourth.

In the fourth quarter, Richmond prevented the Red Flash from getting its offense going, and the match ended 2-1.

Goalkeeper Claudia Marzec (Whitinsville, Mass./Moses Brown School) stopped 15 shots, her second highest total of the season.

Livvy Webb (Easton, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) scored her second goal of the season and gave Taylor Nesmith (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) her third assist.

Defender Taylin Lehman (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) was credited with her sixth defensive save of the season on a nice play to prevent a Richmond goal.

Up next for the Red Flash is a short trip to Harrisonburg, Va. to take on James Madison (6-8, 2-1 CAA) in a nonconference match.
