Red Flash Drops Final Nonconference Match of the Season

Harrisonburg, Va. – The Saint Francis field hockey team (4-13, 1-5 A-10) dropped a nonconference match with James Madison (7-9, 2-2 CAA) on Sunday, 4-1.

After one quarter of a scoreless tie, James Madison began the scoring five minutes into the second quarter to give the Dukes a 1-0 lead. With less than 30 seconds remaining in the half, the Red Flash tied the match on a goal by Taylin Lehman (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin), her second of the season. The goal was assisted by Taylor Nesmith (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley).

James Madison quickly answered, scoring with no time left in the half on a penalty corner to regain the lead, 2-1.

In the third quarter, the Dukes scored one goal halfway through to take a 3-1 lead into the fourth.

In the fourth quarter, James Madison added one more goal with seven minutes remaining to conclude the scoring and take the 4-1 win.

Goalkeeper Claudia Marzec (Whitinsville, Mass./Moses Brown School) stopped eight shots.

Forward Taylor Nesmith (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) led the Red Flash with three shots.

Up next for the Red Flash is the final weekend of the season, when it will host Lock Haven on Friday for its Green Match (in support of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma) and Saint Louis on Sunday for senior day.
