Lewisburg, PA.- The Saint Francis University Track and Field team kicks off their 2019-2020 indoor/outdoor season with a quick trip down route 80 to Gerhard Fieldhouse in Lewisburg, PA on Saturday December 7
th all starting at 10:30 a.m to compete in the Bucknell University Bison Opener. The Red Flash will be competing against eleven other teams including; American University, Bloomsburg University, Bucknell University, Lafayette College, Lock Haven University, Mount St. Mary's, Penn State, Shippensburg University, Towson University, and the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. The field events are up first followed by the track events.
Hoover's response to this upcoming weekend- "This will be a good opportunity for our athletes to see how their fall training has paid off and establish a launching point for the spring semester."
Men's Preview- The men look to kick off the indoor/outdoor season come this Saturday at Bucknell University.
Some notable performers returning this season include senior
Christian McFadden (Odenton, Md./Arundel), sprints, with 9.5 total points scored last year and competing in the 60 meter dash, 300 meter and the 4 x 400 meter relay. Junior
Christopher Frederick (Woodbridge, Va./Gar-Field), sprints, with 11.5 total points from last year will be competing in the 60 meter dash, 300 meter and 4 x 400 meter relay. Sophomore
Taemar Willis (York, Pa./Northeastern), jumps, with 8 total points last season will make the trip as well this weekend, competing in the 60 meter hurdles and 300 meter run.
Some returners for field events include sophomore
Taemar Willis (York, Pa./Northeastern) in the high jump, senior
Jordan Island (West Haven, Conn./St. Joseph) in the long jump, and senior
Mark Njenga (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) in the long jump and triple jump.
Women's Preview- Saturday starts a new season for the women after having some impressive performances last season with many returning this year to continue what they started.
Standout pole vaulter, junior
Taylor Weaver (Butler, Pa./Butler) who ended last season on a high note will be competing this weekend after scoring a total of 10 points last season. Sophomore
Emily Lunger (Sayre, Pa./Athens Area), sprints and jumps, will also be making the trip where she will be competing in the high jump, 200 meter run and 4 x 400 meter relay. Sophomore
Dayna DeSalve (DuBois, Pa./DuBois Area/), jumps, will be competing in the long jump and the 60 meter dash. And lastly, senior Michelle Hilldebrand, throws, will be heading to Bucknell to compete in the weight throw.
Both the men's and women's teams are anxious to start off the season and hope to use this meet to jump start the spring semester, kicking off on a high note. Events start Saturday December 7
