Women's Tennis falls to Ball State, 6-1

BOX SCORE Pittsburgh, Pa. – Saint Francis women's tennis (1-9) fell to Ball State (5-1) in a 6-1 decision on Friday evening at the Alpha Tennis Center.

Romina Cutipa (Huancayo, Peru/San Juan Bosco) was the only member of the Red Flash to pick up a win as the No. 5 singles player defeated Victoria Sec, 1-6, 6-4, 10-4. In No. 1 singles, Ball State's Sarah Swiderski defeated Laura Gutierrez (Bogota, Colombia/Cibercolegio UCN), 6-0, 6-2. The Cardinals' Peyton Gollhofer knocked off Lucia Seigford (Madrid, Spain/Mirasur) at the No. 2 position, 6-2, 6-2.

In No. 3 singles, SFU's Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School) fell to Rebecca Herrington, 6-3, 6-3. Ball State's Isabelle Dohanics won at No. 4 over Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School), 6-1, 6-4. Saint Francis lost at No. 6 by default.

In doubles action, Swiderski and Sec knocked off Seigford and Bode at No. 1, 6-0. Gollhoffer and Dohanics defeated Miller and Gutierrez at No. 2 doubles, 6-0 to secure the doubles point.

SFU returns to action when the Red Flash host Mount St. Mary's in the NEC opener on Sunday Feb. 16. First serve at the Ebensburg Tennis Center is set for 1 p.m.
