Red Flash win NEC opener over Mount St. Mary's, 5-2

BOX SCORE Ebensburg, Pa. – Saint Francis women's tennis (2-9, 1-0 NEC) picked up a 5-2 victory over Mount St. Mary's (0-5, 0-1 NEC) in the NEC opener on Sunday at the Ebensburg Tennis Center.

The Red Flash had its most complete team performance of the season as SFU won the doubles point to start off the match. Saint Francis then recorded wins in four of the six singles positions.

In No. 1 doubles, SFU's Lucia Seigford (Madrid, Spain/Mirasur) and Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School) defeated Hannah Davis and Megan Smith, 6-3. In No. 2 doubles, the Red Flash's Laura Gutierrez (Bogota, Colombia/Cibercolegio UCN) and Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School) knocked off Alexa Quintanilla and Taylor Cook 6-3 to secure the doubles point.

In singles action, Quintanilla won at the No. 1 position over Seigford in a hard-fought 6-2, 7-6 (4) decision. Gutierrez took No. 2 over Smith, 6-2, 6-2.

In No. 3 singles, Bode defeated Davis, 6-2, 6-2. Miller knocked off Cook at No. 4 in an 8-4 pro set. Romina Cutipa (Huancayo, Peru/San Juan Bosco) won at No. 5 over Mia Pittman, 6-3, 6-1. SFU fell at No. 6 by default.

Saint Francis returns to action when it travels to play Bucknell on Friday, Feb. 22 at the Central PA Tennis Center in Williamsport, Pa.
