Women's Tennis drops marathon match at St. Bonaventure, 4-3

BOX SCORE Olean, N.Y. – Saint Francis women's tennis (2-12, 1-0 NEC) dropped a marathon match in a 4-3 decision to St. Bonaventure (4-12) on Friday at the SBU Fitness Center.

"We played a four and a half hour heartbreaker," Head Coach Lisa Swope said. "Four out of five matches went to three sets and we lost in a tiebreak for the doubles point. Our seniors continue to shine with two wins in singles."

Seniors Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School) and Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School) continued to rise to the challenge for the Red Flash as Bode picked up a win at No. 3 singles over St. Bonaventure's Andrea Roque, 6-7, 6-3, 6-2. In No. 4 singles, Miller knocked off the Bonnies' Buse Gunay, 6-1, 6-2.

SFU's Lucia Seigford (Madrid, Spain/Mirasur) also secured a win in singles as the No. 2 player defeated Kahlei Reisinger, 6-2, 2-6, 7-5. In the No. 1 singles position, St. Bonaventure's Penelope Abreu won over Laura Gutierrez (Bogota, Colombia/Cibercolegio UCN), 6-0, 6-2, 6-3. The Bonnies' Emily Stanley bested Romina Cutipa (Huancayo, Peru/San Juan Bosco) for the deciding point at No. 5 singles, 6-7, 6-0, 6-3. SFU fell at No. 6 by default.

In doubles action, Abreu and Roque won a narrow 7-6 decision over Seigford and Bode at No. 1. Miller and Gutierrez picked up a win at No. 2 doubles over Stanley and Reisinger, 6-2. St. Bonaventure secured the doubles point by winning at No. 3 by default.

Saint Francis will return to the courts when it hosts St. Francis Brooklyn in an NEC contest on Sunday, March 24. First serve at the Ebensburg Tennis Center is slated for 12 p.m.
