Red Flash to face Sacred Heart in NEC quarterfinals Thursday

Loretto, Pa. – Fifth-seeded Saint Francis women's tennis will face fourth-seeded Sacred Heart in the quarterfinals of the NEC Championships on Thursday, April 18 at the Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.

The Red Flash are led by No. 1 singles player Laura Gutierrez (Bogota, Colombia/Cibercolegio UCN), who posted a 3-1 singles record in NEC play and a 2-1 mark at No. 2 doubles when teaming up with Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School). In No. 2 singles, Lucia Seigford (Madrid, Spain/Mirasur) had a 2-2 record in NEC play, while holding a 3-1 mark at No. 1 doubles with Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School).

Bode has led the charge for SFU at No. 3 singles with a 3-1 NEC record. Miller has been on a hot streak for the Red Flash at No. 4 singles with a perfect 4-0 mark in conference play. In No. 5 singles, Romina Cutipa (Huancayo, Peru/San Juan Bosco) holds a 2-2 record in NEC action.

Saint Francis and Sacred Heart squared off less than two weeks ago with the Pioneers winning a narrow 4-3 decision over the Red Flash in a match on April 6 at the Yale Tennis Courts.

The winner of SFU and Sacred Heart will face the winner of top-seeded LIU Brooklyn and eighth-seeded St. Francis Brooklyn. The semifinal match will take place on Friday, April 19 at 10 a.m. The complete NEC Championships schedule is listed below.
