Dashaun Jackson (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg) and junior
Sara Phelan (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg)) will look to add to their historic seasons this week at the NCAA Division I National Championships in Austin, Texas.
Jackson became the first SFU man since 2004 to advance to the national championship, by virtue of his 5
th place finish in the East Preliminary with another SFU school record time of 13.53 in the 110m hurdles. He will race in the national semifinal at 8:32 pm EST on Wednesday, June 5. The semifinal features 24 qualifiers and will be run in 3 heats of 8 men each. The top 2 finishers in each heat, plus the next 2 fastest times from the field, will advance to the final on Friday, June 7th.
Phelan became the first SFU woman ever to advance to the national championship, after she took 7
th in the East Preliminary with another SFU record of 50.91m (167' 0") in the javelin. She will throw in the national final at 9:15 pm EST on Thursday, June 6. The javelin features 24 qualifiers, who will compete in 2 flights of 12 women each, with the top-9 finishers plus ties advancing to a final that evening.
