Harrogate, Tenn. – The Saint Francis men's volleyball team (2-4) played its second five-set match in as many days, falling to Lincoln Memorial (4-3) on Saturday afternoon.
Set One
· LMU jumped out to an early 6-3 lead, but SFU stayed in striking distance.
· After cutting the set to 10-9, the Railsplitters used a 4-0 run to regain a five-point lead.
· Trailing 20-15, SFU was able to cut the lead down to two late.
· LMU stopped the Red Flash run short and finished the set off, winning by five.
· Michael Fisher (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) led the Red Flash with four kills.
· Roman Szwabinsky (Columbus, Ohio/Westerville South) chipped in 11 assists.
· Final Score: LMU 25, SFU 20
Set Two
· SFU began the second set with a 4-0 lead.
· The Red Flash kept a 3-5 point lead the majority of the match.
· After going up 18-15, LMU was able to cut the lead to one.
· SFU never surrendered the lead, though, and scored six of the final points to take the set by six.
· Michael Fisher (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) had six kills in the set and Blake Liprando (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley HS) added three.
· Roman Szwabinsky (Columbus, Ohio/Westerville South) added 10 more assists.
· Final Score: SFU 25, LMU 19
Set Three
· SFU scored the first point, but LMU quickly went up 6-2.
· The Red Flash answered with a 7-4 run to cut the lead down to 10-9.
· LMU quickly rebutted, reextending its lead to 17-11.
· SFU was able to get close at 19-17, but LMU allowed no more and closed out the set by six.
· Michael Fisher (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) registered five kills for SFU.
· Final Score: LMU 25, SFU 19
Set Four
· Down 2-1 for the second night in a row, the Red Flash looked to continue the comeback trend.
· The teams stayed within one point of each other until SFU took a 9-7 lead.
· After going up 15-10, SFU was then tasked with holding off the Splitters.
· LMU was able to cut it to two at 17-15, but that was the closest they got, as SFU poured it on late by scoring eight of the final 10 points.
· Michael Fisher (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) continued a stellar performance with six more kills.
· Roman Szwabinksy also added 11 more assists.
· Final Score: SFU 25, LMU 17
Set Five
· SFU started the set 3-1, but Lincoln quickly answered to tie it at four.
· The teams then began to exchange points, seeing ties at every point from 5-10.
· Tied at 10, LMU scored five of the final seven points to defeat the Red Flash and take the match.
· Final Score: LMU 15, SFU 12
