Men's tennis falls to Youngstown State

Boardman, Ohio – Saint Francis men's tennis fell to Youngstown State 7-0 on Friday evening at the Avalon Athletic Club.

Playing his first singles match of the season, SFU's Derek Roehner (Weston, FL/Cypress Bay) couldn't overcome Vailis Vardakis in a 6-1, 6-1 defeat. YSU's Larentiu Mandocescu knocked off Sebastian Pinos (Quito, Ecuador/Compuinformatica) at No. 2, 7-5, 6-1. The Red Flash's Daniel Vinces (Lima, Peru/Universidad de Piura) fell at No. 3 to Joao Garretto, 6-3, 6-1.

In No. 4 singles, the Penguins' Erik Gran defeated Jordi Garcia (Barcelona, Spain/IES Vallès), 6-2, 6-2. SFU's Andrew Teixeira (Sao Paulo, Brazil/ETEC Getúlio Vargas) won the first set at No. 5 before dropping a 3-6, 7-6 (4), 10-7 decision to Will Everett. YSU's Pol Virgili Blanco knocked off Samuel Ghigiarelli (Aruja, Brazil/Jacksonville College) at the No. 6 position, 6-1, 6-1.

In No. 1 doubles, the Penguins' Mandocescu and Garretto sweeped Roehner and Ghigiarelli, 6-0. SFU's Pinos and Garcia fell at No. 2 to Vardakis and Everett, 6-4. YSU's Gran and Blanco won at No. 3 over Teixeira and Banti, 6-4.

Saint Francis returns to action at Cleveland State on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 5 p.m.
