Staten Island, NY. – The Saint Francis University Track and Field team is back in action this coming weekend traveling to Staten Island to compete in the Great Dane Indoor Classic. After a long break, the Red Flash are ready to get back to it against some tough competition. All the action starts Saturday the 11
th at the Ocean Breeze Park Track and Field Complex in Staten Island, NY at 10:30 am.
Men's Overview – After a successful outing at the Bison Opener, the men are ready to kick off the rest of the season in New York.
Frederick's reflection on this upcoming weekend - "Going into this weekend it feels like the calm before the storm, since we have not competed since December 7th but excited to sharpen up and begin to see what is in store for 2020. I think the team will preform very well. We left off 2019 on a high note and I think we'll be prepared with the tools to execute well."
Junior
Christopher Frederick (Woodbridge, Va./Gar-Field) is one to keep an eye on this weekend. After breaking a school record in the 60m dash and qualifying for the ECAC championships, he looks to continue what he started this coming weekend. Freshman
Nickolas Hyde (Somerset, P.A. /Somerset) is already a standout and one to look out for, breaking a record at Bucknell in the shot put in his collegiate debut and as well qualified himself for the ECAC championships already.
Senior's
Christian McFadden (Odenton, Md./Arundel) and
Mark Njenga (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) will be making the trip as well this weekend after solid performances at Bucknell in December. Both with a new personal best and a new rank on the SFU all-time list.
Sophomore's
Taemar Willis (York, Pa./Northeastern) and
Richard Gilchrist (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg (SciTech Campus)) both performed well at Bucknell scoring a personal best and an all-time performance, look to get back at it this coming weekend.
Overall, the men look towards this weekend to continue the start of what they are hoping to be another successful championship season.
Women's Overview – The Red Flash Women's Track and Field team is looking to get back to business this weekend after a long break at the Great Dane Indoor Classic.
"Coming back from break it's always a hurry to get back into the swing of things and get ready for a meet in under a week, but we've all been training hard and I think we are ready to go out and give some great performances!"

The women's team is seeing their underclassmen step up already this season. Former athlete of the week, sophomore
Mylan Crews (West Alexandria, OH./West Alexandria-Twin Valley) will be making the trip this weekend to continue her successful start to the season. At Bucknell she improved her 60 m dash time, finished fourth in the meet and moved from the 6
th to the 3
rd spot on the all-time list. She will most definitely be someone to keep an eye on this upcoming weekend.
Freshman
Aaliyah Vandergrift (Lindenwold, N.J. /Paul VI),
Jenna Beitel (Saltsburg, P.A. /Saltsburg High School ),
Marlena Jacobs (Adams Center, N.Y. /South Jefferson Central) and
Madeline Murphy (Cresson, P.A. /Bishop Carroll ) all placed themselves on the SFU all-time lists in their own events with their collegiate debuts and look to continue the momentum Saturday in Staten Island.
Junior
Taylor Weaver (Butler, Pa./Butler) will as well be making the trip where last meet she qualified herself for the ECAC championship to put herself on the list of people to watch this weekend.
Sophomore
Emily Lunger (Sayre, Pa./Athens Area) will also be in Staten Island to compete where last meet she improved a personal best in the 200m dash.
All the women are ready to go and look forward to this weekend to start off the new year and the rest of the 2019-2020 season on the right foot.
All action starts off Saturday at 10:30 am for both the men and women indoor track and field events. Results will follow.
