Garcia records singles victory as SFU drops decision to Cleveland State

Cleveland, Ohio – Saint Francis freshman Jordi Garcia (Barcelona, Spain/IES Vallès) picked up his first collegiate singles victory, but the Red Flash fell to Cleveland State 6-1 on Saturday at Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion.

Playing No. 5 singles, Garcia bounced back after dropping the first set to defeat Noah Cenkner, 5-7, 6-4, 10-5. In No. 1 singles, CSU's Nico Mostardi swept Derek Roehner (Weston, FL/Cypress Bay), 6-0, 6-0. SFU's Sebastian Pinos (Quito, Ecuador/Compuinformatica) fell to Matthew Terry at No. 2, 6-2, 6-3.

The Vikings' Luke Phillips won at No. 3 over Daniel Vinces (Lima, Peru/Universidad de Piura), 6-0, 6-2. In No. 4 singles, the Red Flash's Andrew Teixeira (Sao Paulo, Brazil/ETEC Getúlio Vargas) dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Kade Mindry. CSU's Jack Santilli knocked off Christian Banti (Pisa, Italy/IISS Antonio Pesenti) at No. 6, 6-4, 6-1.

In No. 1 doubles, Mostardi and Phillips defeated Garcia and Roehner, 6-3. Pinos and Vinces fell to Terry and Mindry at No. 2, 6-4. Santilli and Cenkner won at No. 3 over Banti and Teixeira, 6-4.

Saint Francis returns to action at Bucknell on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 1 p.m.
