Men's tennis has strong outing at Bucknell

South Williamsport, Pa. – Saint Francis men's tennis had its best outing of the spring season, but came up just short in a 5-2 defeat to Bucknell on Sunday at the Central PA Tennis Center.

Jordi Garcia (Barcelona, Spain/IES Vallès) and Christian Banti (Pisa, Italy/IISS Antonio Pesenti) recorded singles victories at No. 5 and No. 6 to lead the way for the Red Flash. Garcia bounced back after dropping a tight first set to knock off Guillermo Torres 6-7 (5), 6-3, 10-6. Banti also came from behind to beat Sam Yildirimlar, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.

In No. 1 singles, Bucknell's Marwan Abaza won over Derek Roehner (Weston, FL/Cypress Bay), 6-2, 6-0. SFU's Sebastian Pinos (Quito, Ecuador/Compuinformatica) fell to Michael Owen at No. 2, 6-3, 6-2. The Bison's Cooper Bradshaw defeated Andrew Teixeira (Sao Paulo, Brazil/ETEC Getúlio Vargas) at No. 3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. In No. 4 singles, the Red Flash's Daniel Vinces (Lima, Peru/Universidad de Piura) dropped a 6-3, 7-5 decision to Ryan Jurist.

In No. 1 doubles, Bradshaw and Owen knocked off Roehner and Garcia, 6-3. Pinos and Vinces fell to Abaza and Jurist at No. 2, 7-5. Bucknell's Per Astrom and Torres defeated Banti and Teixeira at No. 3, 6-4.

Saint Francis returns to action at Mercyhurst on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 3 p.m.
