Men's tennis drops home match to Carnegie Mellon

Ebensburg, Pa. – Saint Francis men's tennis fell to Carnegie Mellon 5-2 on Saturday at the Ebensburg Tennis Center.

SFU's Andrew Teixeira (Sao Paulo, Brazil/ETEC Getúlio Vargas) recorded a win at No. 2 singles over Robert Levin, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3. The Red Flash's Samuel Ghigiarelli (Aruja, Brazil/Jacksonville College) defeated Jonathan Nottingham at the No. 6 position, 6-2, 6-2.

In No. 1 singles, CMU's Ray Boppana knocked off Sebastian Pinos (Quito, Ecuador/Compuinformatica), 6-2, 7-6 (5). SFU's Daniel Vinces (Lima, Peru/Universidad de Piura) fell at No. 3 to Sam Gibson, 6-4, 6-3. The Tartans' Raahil Doshi won over Jordi Garcia (Barcelona, Spain/IES Vallès) at No. 4, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. In No. 5 singles, the Red Flash's Christian Banti (Pisa, Italy/IISS Antonio Pesenti) fell to Matthew Poh, 7-6 (4), 6-4.

In doubles action, Pinos and Teixeira teamed up to defeat Boppana and Nottingham at No. 1, 6-2. CMU's Levin and Gibson won over Ghigiarelli and Vinces at No. 2, 7-6 (5). SFU's Banti and Garcia couldn't overcome Joshua Pickney and Edward Chen at No. 3, 7-6 (3).

Saint Francis has two weeks off before returning to action at Northern Kentucky on Friday, March 13 at 7 p.m.
