PITTSBURGH – The Saint Francis swimming team (0-1) lost to Duquesne (1-0) by a 149-95 margin in the season-opening dual meet on Saturday. The Red Flash totaled five event wins, including two by junior
Annabelle McCullough.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Saint Francis totaled five event wins from four individuals throughout the meet. McCullough led the Red Flash with two wins, both in individual events. She touched the wall first in a field of eight in the 100 fly (58.30), as the only swimmer to break the one-minute mark. McCullough also won the 50 free (24.93) as the lone swimmer finishing under 25 seconds.
Amelia Laudenbach finished first in the 200 back (2:06.51), beating all competition by more than one second. The remaining two event-wins were courtesy of sophomores
Krysta Weik and
Julia Springer. Weik touched the wall first in the 100 breast (1:08.17) while Springer went the distance in the 1000 free (11:14.94).
SFU also tallied four runner-up finishes.
Jacquelyn Rocque finished immediately behind Springer in the 1000 free (11:24.41). Laudenbach was the runner up in the 100 back (59.26) while
Chloe Clemens touched second in the 200 fly (2:14.32).
The Red Flash finished the day with a second-place finish in the 200 free relay.
Urska Medvesek, Anna Bernasconi, Julia Bradford and
Nicole Lopez Kohlmann finished with a time of 1:42.54.
In the 400 medley relay, Laudenbach, Bernasconi,
Jessica Rupp and McCullough finished third (4:05.15). Laudenbach swam the second-fastest split time in the 100 back to open the event.
Saint Francis had a swimmer on the podium for every event. Weik finished third in the 400 IM (4:44.46) while Lopez Kohlmann did so in the 200 breast (2:37.75). The Red Flash also posted a trio of third-place finishes in mid-distance free – Bradford in the 100 free (55.83), Lopez Kohlmann in the 200 free (2:03.83) and Springer in the 500 free (5:32.83).
