Saint Francis Women Sweep Singles Against Western Illinois, Fall to Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Saint Francis women's tennis team (2-5) earned a 5-2 victory over Western Illinois before falling to Youngstown State 7-0 to end competition on Saturday. The Red Flash swept the singles matches against WIU, with four of the five victories coming in straight sets.

SINGLES
The Red Flash won all five of its singles matches, four of which were decided in straight sets. Dominique Yeo won her No. 1 singles match in straight sets against WIU's Castellanos, 6-4, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, Nagisa Miyake beat Cortina, 7-6 and 6-3. Romina Cutipa won at No. 4 singles against Kancherla – 6-4, 6-2. At No. 5 singles, Marie Discini beat Simhambhatla by 6-3 and 6-4 marks for the two-set win.

Anouk Ma-Ajong prevailed over WIU's Carbonell at No. 3 singles in three sets. After Ma-Ajong won the first set, 6-4, Carbonell came back to win set two by the same margin. Ma-Ajong regrouped in set three for a decisive 6-1 set win to capture her singles match point.

DOUBLES
Yeo and Cutipa teamed up for a win at No. 1 doubles, beating Rubka and Castellanos 6-1. At No. 2 doubles, Miyake and Ma-Ajong fell to Kancherla and Cortina by a 6-3 margin as Western Illinois captured the doubles point.

SINGLES
Yeo needed extra for her first set against Rosas at No. 1 singles but lost 6-7, 2-6. Ma-Ajong kept her No. 3 singles match tight in both sets, losing to Masarikova 5-7, 4-6.

At No. 5 singles, Discini fell to Barboza 0-6, 3-6. Miyake and Cutipa each lost 6-0 in straight sets in their No. 2 and No. 4 singles matches, respectively.

DOUBLES
Yeo and Cutipa kept their No. 1 doubles match close but ultimately fell to Esteo and Rosas by a 6-4 margin. At No. 2 doubles, Miyake and Ma-Ajong lost to Teufl and Masarikova 6-0.
