BOX SCORE LORETTO, P.A. - Saint Francis University fell to Holy Cross 3-0 in the field hockey season opener for both teams on Friday. For the Red Flash, it was the first regular season matchup in almost two seasons after the 2020 season was canceled due to COVID-19.
Chloe South (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) recorded four saves on the afternoon, including two diving saves against the Crusaders.
Saint Francis features 16 players who made their debuts in the red and black this afternoon.
The Red Flash started out the game with a good chance from Ella Mallie (Reading, Pa./Exeter TWP.) which was turned aside in the fourth minute of play. With two minutes left in the third quarter, Julia Breneman (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) put the ball on net that was turned aside by Holy Cross.
Holy Cross was able to notch one goal in the second and two goals in the third to give themselves the 3-0 victory in their first trip to Loretto, Pa.
The Red Flash will return to action on Sunday August 29 when they travel to Harrisonburg, Virginia to take on James Madison. Match time is slotted for 12 p.m. They will return to DeGol Field on Sunday, September 5 to take on the Ball State Cardinals.
