BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. –
Eva Valentini (Junin, Buenos Aires, Argentina) scored the final two goals of the game to propel Saint Francis University past Ohio University 2-1 in non-conference field hockey action on Sunday.
Valentini, the current Northeast Conference Player of the Week, tied the game at 1 with her goal at 8:08 left in the first quarter off a pass from
Ella Maillie (Reading, Pa.). Valentini then put-back Maillie's rebounded shot with 3:31 left in the fourth to give the Red Flash the lead for good. It was the squad's second-straight 2-1 win on the weekend.
Valentini now leads the team with five goals and one assist for 11 points. All of her scoring has come in the last four games and has helped Saint Francis to three-straight wins in the process.
Maillie, who registered an assist in the 3-2 win against Loch Haven on September 10, posted a career-high two assists on the afternoon and now leads the team with three helpers.
Chloe South (Lusby, Md.) posted nine saves in between the pipes to notch her best performance at DeGol Field. She now has 50 saves this season.
Saint Francis used the same formula during both games this weekend. The squad fell down early to Drexel on Friday and again on Sunday against Ohio University. South and the defense closed the door the rest of the way while Valentini tied both matches.
Julia Breneman (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) had the game-winning score in the wins against Loch Haven and Drexel before Valentini turned in the heroics against Ohio.
The Red Flash return to action on Friday against Longwood in Oxford, Ohio. Match time is 2 p.m.
