LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bente Vandeputte advanced to the No. 2 Singles Championship Match while Anoek Pruijimboom and
Dominique Yeo reached the No. 1 Doubles Championship Match for Saint Francis University at the Bucknell Women's Tennis Invitational over the weekend.
Vandeputte won her collegiate debut with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Caroline Marcus from Bucknell. She then advanced after her opponent halted the match due to injury with Vandeputte leading 3-0 and then defeated Anna Lajos of Bucknell 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the Championship Match in No. 2 singles.
The tandem of
Dominique Yeo and Anoek Prijimboom also advanced to the title bout for No. 1 doubles after earning a 6-3 win against Dax Seidlin and Tyne Miller of Bucknell and a 6-4 win against Olivia Boeckman and Maureen McCormick of Lafayette to move onto the final round.
Play was cancelled on Sunday due to the weather so the championship matches were not played.
Marie Discini was one win away from meeting Vandeputte in the championship match. She won against Emma Menkowitz of Lafayette 6-2, 6-1 and against Emma Shea of Niagara 6-0, 6-2, but fell to Lauel Utterback of Bucknell 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals.
Yeo earned victories in her first and third match of the tournament in No. 1 singles. She defeated Jessica Siegel of Lafayette 6-3, 6-3 in the opening match, and earned a 6-4, 6-3 win in the consolation round against Miller of Bucknell.
Romina Cutipa won her opening round match against Coral Rodriguez of Niagara, 6-2, 6-0 while Pruijimboom took her consolation round match 6-3, 6-0 against Niagara.
Also, at No. 2 doubles,
Nagisa Miyake won her first consolation round match against Emma Shea of Niagara, 6-0, 6-2 and dropped her two other matches over the first two days of the event.
Vandeputte and Miyake won its consolation doubles No. 2 doubles match 6-2.
Saint Francis returns to action at the Mount St. Mary's University Invitational starting on Friday.
