» Saint Francis University track and field team opened the 2021-22 season at the Nittany Lion Challenge hosted by Penn State University on Saturday.
» The challenge marked the first indoor track and field event for the Red Flash in 678 days when the squad competed at the IC4A/ECAC Championships on March 8, 2020.
» Mylan Crews (West Alexandria, Ohio), Rhoda Alaban-Tafon (Glen Bernie, Md.) and Madeline Murphy (Cresson, Pa.) all recorded top-5 finishes for the women's track and field team.
» The Saint Francis men's team was led by some great performances in the jumps, guided by Caleb Nelson (Bridgeville, Pa.) and his third-place standing in the triple jump.
FLASH WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD NUGGETS
Crews clocked a 7.70 to finish fourth in the 60m. Alaban-Tafon took fifth in the 400m, clocking in a time of 58.62. Alabon-Tafon's time improving upon her Saint Francis' all-time sixth place ranking in the event.
Murphy was fifth in the triple jump, with a mark of 11.47m.
Marlena Jacobs (Adams Center, N.Y.) took sixth in the pole vault, clearing 3.50m to rank sixth in program history.
Monica Gregg (Henrietta, N.Y.) crossed the finish line at 1:43.69 in the 600m, which ranks her fifth in program history, while
Zoe Wicks (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa.) posted a time of 1:45.24, moving her into ninth in program history in the event.
Freshman
Tierney Beebout (Johnstown, Pa.) debuted 12th in the high jump, clearing 1.60m in the event. Beebout's performance leaped her into fourth on the Saint Francis all-time performance list.
Emily Lunger (Sayre, Pa.) recorded a 1.60m mark in the high jump placing ninth.
FLASH MEN'S TRACK & FIELD NUGGETS
Nelson placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 13.73m, propelling him into seventh in program history.
Nickolas Hyde (Somerset, Pa.) also had a top-5 performance in the shot put with his toss of 16.77m, good for fifth.
Ardonntrell Williams (Voorhees, N.J.) recorded personal bests in the long jump and 60m. Williams' performance landed him fifth (6.75m) and 16th (7.10) in each event, respectively. Williams also now holds 10th on the Saint Francis all-time performance in the long jump.
In the high jump, the Red Flash went 4, 6, 7 with
Bryce Collins (Taylor, Pa.) leading the way in the event posting a 1.95m mark.
Barry Ndeh (Burlington, N.J.) followed with a 1.95m jump-off and
Taemar Willis (York, Pa.) completed the top-ten with 1.90m mark.
Bryce Baker (Harrisburg, Pa.) posted a time of 7.00 in the 60m, moving him into eighth in team history.
