ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Saint Francis University men's and women's tennis dropped their season opener at Navy on Saturday, 6-1 each.
Marc Fuste and
Bente Vandeputte both recorded a singles point for the Red Flash.

Singles
Fuste, a sophomore, earned the only Saint Francis point of the match with his No. 4 singles 2-6, 6-1, 10-6 win over Luke Garner.
Daniel Vinces lost his No. 6 singles match late in the third set to Cy McLeod, 6-2, 1-6, 10-7.
Sebastian Pinos lost to Derrick Thompson in No. 1 singles,
Andrew Teixeira fell to Finn Garner in No. 2 singles,
Fabio Varella lost to Jack McBride in No. 3 singles and
Christian Banti fell to Christian Pumpelly in No. 5 singles.
Doubles
Navy earned the doubles point over Saint Francis when F. Garner and L. Garner defeated Fuste and Teixeira 6-2 in a decisive No. 2 doubles match. Thompson and McBride defeated Varella and Pinos 6-3 in No. 1 doubles before Saint Francis captured the No. 3 doubles win when
Jordi Garcia and Banti defeated Andreas Ballesteros and Eric Liu 6-2.

Singles
Vandeputte, a freshman, won the only singles match for the Red Flash with her 6-1, 1-6, 6-0 victory over Casey Accola in No. 3 singles. The victory was in Vandeputte's first spring match of her collegiate career.
After an All-NEC Second Team and All-Rookie Team selection 2021 season,
Dominique Yeo narrowly lost her No. 1 singles match 6-1, 4-6, 10-6 to Emily Tannenbaum.
No other Red Flash player won a set as
Anouk Ma-Ajong lost her No. 2 singles match to Samantha Johns,
Romina Cutipa fell in No. 4 singles to Sella Ribaudo,
Valeria Vinces fell to Corrine Farid in No. 5 singles and
Anoek Pruijmboom lost to Parathi Shanker in No. 6 singles.
Doubles
Navy captured the doubles point with wins in all-three matches played, though Navy's Accola and Farid narrowly defeated Saint Francis' Vandeputte and Pruijmboom in No. 2 doubles 7-6.
