Men’s and Women’s Tennis Set to Host Matches vs. Longwood on Saturday

LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis University men's and women's tennis are set to host their first home matches of the 2022 season on Saturday, Jan. 29. Women's tennis plays at the Gorilla House Gym at 11 a.m. and men's tennis plays at the Ebensburg Tennis Center at 12 p.m.

Women's Last Time Out
The women earned their first win of the season with a 5-2 victory over Morgan State on Jan. 23. Bente Vandeputte and Romina Cutipa led the way with one singles and one doubles victory each. Vandeputte and Pruijmboom won No. 2 doubles 6-4 and Cutipa and Marie Discini won No. 3 doubles 6-0 to earn the doubles point. In singles, Dominique Yeo earned her first win of the season 4-6, 6-0, 10-4 in No. 1 singles over Asmara Rose. Anouk Ma-Ajong won No. 2 doubles 7-6, 7-5 and, combined with Vandeputte's No. 3 singles and Cutipa's No. 4 singles wins, Saint Francis took 4-of-6 singles matches.
 
Scouting Longwood
The Lancers enter Saturday's match with an 0-2 record after they fell to Marshall 4-0 and No. 7 Virginia 7-0. Two players, Wiktoria Czerny and Karina Rizanova, made their collegiate debuts during the matches, while four sophomores, one junior and one senior returned from last season. Czerny and Alexandra Hincu were the closest to winning a match on the weekend when No. 3 doubles ended in a 4-4 tie due to Marshall already clinching the point.
 
All-Time vs. Longwood
Saturday's matchup at Gorilla House Gym in Altoona, Pa. will be the first meeting between Saint Francis and Longwood in program history.

Men's Last Time Out
Matt Blose had a clutch No. 6 singles win 6-3, 6-0 over Morgan State's Martial Kawunde to clinch Saint Francis' 4-3 victory over the Bears. Sebastian Pinos led the Red Flash to a narrow No. 1 singles victory 0-6, 6-4, 10-9 over Nihit Rawal, whom he fell to during the 2021 season. Fabio Varella and Daniel Vinces won their respective singles matches to earn 4-of-6 singles points that led to the victory. Though Saint Francis lost the doubles point, Zachary Palko and Marc Fuste earned the first doubles victory of their collegiate careers with a 6-4 win in No. 3 doubles.
 
Scouting Longwood
Saint Francis is set to be Longwood's first opponent in the 2022 season. In 2021, the Lancers went 6-9 overall with an 0-5 record in Big South matches. Longwood returns senior Guillermo Cagigas, who was top-three on the team in 2021 with a 7-7 singles record. Four of the eight players on Longwood's 2022 roster are freshman.

Both men's and women's tennis are set to visit Carnegie Mellon on Saturday, Feb. 5 and host Colgate on Sunday, Feb. 6.
