The Red Flash defeated the Terriers of St. Francis Brooklyn, 2-1.
Milan Djajic scored both goals for the Red Flash in the match.
THE WORD ON THE SHARKS
LIU is 9-4-1 on the season and 6-2 at home. The Sharks have Northeast Conference (NEC) wins over Central Connecticut State, Sacred Heart and Stonehill and a tie against Howard. The program fell to No. 2 in the conference standings after dropping matches against Merrimack and FDU.
Last season the Sharks went 12-5-4 in the regular season. The program won the NEC Men's Soccer Championship after defeating No. 4 seed Bryant in the semifinals on penalty kicks 5-4 and No. 2 seed St. Francis Brooklyn in the championships on penalty kicks 6-5. The Sharks advanced to the NCAA Tournament where they beat the University of Maryland, 1-0. The program then lost to No. 10 seed Saint Louis University, 1-5.
Returning for LIU is junior forward Emil Jaaskelainen who has started 11 matches for the Sharks this season. Jaaskelainen currently leads the NEC in points (23), shots (53) and goals (11). He is also tied for second in the NCAA for total goals.
Gianluca Cersosimo has started nine matches in goal for the Sharks this season. Cersosimo has allowed five goals this season and registered 5 shutouts. The graduate student keeper has the best save percentage in the NEC with a .886.
The Sharks are under the direction of Michael Mordocco who is in his sixth season as head coach with the program. LIU was unanimously voted to finish first in the NEC Preseason Poll.
