Moore Nabs Third NEC Rookie Of The Week Honor; Moore, Cohen NEC Prime Performers

Freshman Landon Moore (Bloomington, Ill./Western Reserve Academy), a member of the Saint Francis men's basketball team, has been named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week for the week of December 12-18. It is the third time this season Moore has earned the honor. In addition, Moore and redshirt junior Josh Cohen (Lincroft, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) have beennamed an NEC Prime Performer for the sixth-straight week.

Moore, a 6-4 guard, posted a career-high 25 points along with five assists against No. 25 Miami on Saturday. The freshman matched his career-best of 16 points in the first half to help the Red Flash go into halftime tied with a nationally-ranked team. Moore shot 8-for-16 from the floor, 2 of 6 from behind the arc and 7 of 8 from the free throw line on the afternoon. He set career-highs in points, field goals made and free throws made, while dishing out at least five assists for the fifth time this season. It was Moore's first double-figure point game in five contests and shot 8-for-34 with 26 points in his last four games.

Moore leads the team with 45 assists and ranks second in scoring with 11.8 points per game. The freshman ranks second in the NEC in assists per game (3.83), second in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.42), fifth in free throw percentage (81.1) and 13th in scoring

Moore becomes the fifth Red Flash player to earn the top rookie of the week honor three times or more and the first since Keith Braxton in 2016-17. Braxton was named NEC Rookie of the Week seven times, while Darshan Luckey (eight times, 2002-03), Devin Sweetney (four times, 2003-04) and Will Felder (three times, 2009-19) are the others that have taken home the honor three or more times.

Coming off a 40-point performance against Hawai'i on December 11, Cohen followed that performance with 30 points and nine rebounds against No. 25 Miami on Saturday. Trailing 14-12, Saint Francis scored the next eight points to take a 20-14 advantage midway through the first half. Cohen scored six of the eight points in the spurt and had 10 points in the first 20 minutes to help the Red Flash go into the locker room tied with the Hurricanes. The redshirt junior finished 10-for-16 from the floor, and 10 of 13 from the free throw line, while adding nine rebounds and playing the entire game until he came out of the game for the final 101 seconds on the afternoon. Cohen was the first opposing player against Miami with a 30-point outing versus the Hurricanes since Buddy Boeheim on March 5, 2022 at Syracuse.

Cohen has scored double figures in all 12 games this season with five games over 20 points and now three contests with 30 points or more. In addition, he has registered at least seven rebounds in each game he has scored at least 20 points in a game including nine rebounds in each game over 30 points. Cohen now has the Top-3 scoring games for the NEC this season, but his 30-point game is tied with Isaiah Burnett of Stonehill thanks to his 30-point effort against Holy Cross on November 15. Cohen is the first player in the NEC since Rob Monroe in 2004-05 to score 40-points twice and have a 30-point game. Monroe had four 30-point games to go with his two 40-point performances.

It is the sixth-straight week the Red Flash has earned a major weekly award, taking home one honor each week. Along with the honor announced on Monday, Moore was selected as the NEC Rookie of the Week for the weeks of November 7-12 and November 13-20. Cohen was named the NEC Player of the Week for the weeks of November 21-27 and December 5-12, while freshman Cam Gregory (Accokeek, Md.) was the top rookie for the week of November 28-December 4.

Cohen has been named an NEC Prime Performer for the sixth time this season (every week this season), while Moore and junior Maxwell Land (Cincinnati, Ohio) have been named NEC Prime Performers twice this season.
