SELECT GAME NOTES VS. ROBERT MORRIS (FULL GAME NOTES PDF)
OPENING TIP
• Wednesday's iteration between Saint Francis and Robert Morris marks the 91st meeting in the all-time series between the two former Northeast Conference foes dating back to the 1977-78 season.
• The Colonials, who lead the all-time series 52-38, have won the last three contests in the series including the last tilt at the UPMC Events Center, the 2019-20 NEC Championship Game.
• Prior to the three-game skid, the Red Flash had won nine straight in the series.
LAST TIME WE MET
• Robert Morris defeated Saint Francis 75-67 on December 22, 2021.
• Ramiir Dixon-Conover paced the Red Flash with 20 points, while Myles Thompson (14 points), Ronell Giles, Jr. (12 points) and Maxwell Land (11 points) also found double figures in the contest.
• Rasheem Dunn paced the Colonials with 21 points, while Matt Mayers (16 points, 11 rebounds) and Enoch Cheeks (13 points) also had over 10 points in the game.
THE WORD ON ROBERT MORRIS
• The Colonials come into the contest 5-7 after upending another former NEC foe Mount St. Mary's 68-59 on Sunday.
• Josh Corbin paced Robert Morris with 20 points against the Mount. Enoch Cheeks tallied 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Kahliel Spear posted 11 points in the matchup in Emmitsburg.
LAST TIME OUT
• No. 25 Miami defeated Saint Francis 91-76 despite the two teams being tied at halftime on Saturday.
• Saint Francis had a chance to go into the locker room with the lead, having the ball in the waning seconds of the half. A turnover and a dunk sent the two teams into the locker room knotted at 37 after the first 20 minutes.
• Redshirt junior Josh Cohen following up his second 40-point act of the season with a 30-point, nine-rebound performance. In all three games Cohen has scored over 30 points, he has also hauled in nine boards.
• Freshman Landon Moore added a career-high 25 points, along with five assists against the Hurricanes. He matched his previous best of 16 points by halftime.
• It was the first time that two players scored 20 points in a game since Cohen had 21 points and junior Maxwell Land added 20 points in the regular season finale last season against Sacred Heart on Feb. 24, 2022. It was also the first time the Red Flash had a player with 30 points and one with 20 points since November 19, 2009 when Devin Sweetney had 30 points and Cedric Latimer added 23 points against the Leopards.
AN SFU WIN WOULD
• End a three-game losing streak against Robert Morris
• Give the Red Flash its first win on the road this season
• Have the team finish 2-2 against the Keystone State
• Be the first win against the Horizon League and on the road against the conference since 2009-10 at Youngstown State
• Be the team's second win in the month of December
TRENDING UP
• Redshirt junior Josh Cohen averaged 25.4 points and shot 63.8 percent from the field in five games against Miami (Fla.), Ohio State, Butler, Hawaii and St. Bonaventure. Perhaps even more impressive, the astute big man has a miniscule turnover rate of 7.6 percent in the five "guarantee games" after committing a paltry seven turnovers.
• Freshman Landon Moore was named NEC Rookie of the Week after scoring 25 points against Miami on Saturday. In his previous four games, the freshman was 8-for-34 (23.5 percent) from the floor and 5-for-21 (23.8 percent) from behind the arc with a combined 26 points, but did also have 14 assists in that stretch.
• Junior Ronell Giles, Jr. has played in the last three games after missing seven of the first nine games this season and 13 of the last 14 games in 2021-22 to injury.
• Giles played a season-high 22 minutes against Miami on Saturday and has registered a field goal in each of his last two games, including a nice move for a layup against the Hurricanes.
• Before Moore's 25-point outburst, Giles was the last freshman to have a 20-point game for the Red Flash when he posted 20 points against St. Francis Brooklyn in his freshman year.
FRANKIES TIDBITS IN A FLASH
• When redshirt junior Josh Cohen scored 40 points against Lehigh on November 21 he was the first player to hit that mark since Mike Iuzzolino registered 41 points against Robert Morris on February 16, 1991.
• It was a span of 31 years and 901 games in between the Iuzzolino and Cohen 40-point games. Cohen then had his second 40-point game, six games later, at Hawai'i on December 11.
• The game at Robert Morris on Wednesday will mark the first time Cohen and Iuzzolino will be in the same building with Iuzzolino serving as an associate head coach on the Robert Morris staff.
• Staying on Cohen, he registered 30 points against No. 25 Miami to become the first player in the Northeast Conference to register three 30-point games in non-conference play since Bryant's Dyami Starks recorded four in the 2013-14 season. In addition, Cohen is the first player since Quinnipiac Rob Monroe in 2003-04 to register two 40-point games and a 30-point game in the same season. Monroe had four 30-point games to go along with his two 40's.
• Saint Francis is 337-312-2 against all the teams in the state of Pennsylvania. The Red Flash is 86-237 against NCAA Division I teams and 251-75-2 against non-NCAA Division I teams.
• The squad will play four fellow Keystone state teams this season. The Red Flash has played Lehigh (L, 76-82), Bucknell (L, 65-89) and Saint Vincent (W, 88-58).
• Head coach Rob Krimmel is 22-21 against the state of Pennsylvania.
• Saint Francis has played its most games against teams from the western part of the state in program history. The Red Flash have tangled with Robert Morris the most in the state with 90 meetings. Duquesne has been on the squad 75 times, Saint Vincent 65 times, Westminster 43 times, Geneva 39 times and Pittsburgh 30 times.
• Saint Francis is 5-8 all-time against the Horizon League and 2-3 on the road.
• The Red Flash has a win against Xavier when it was in the Horizon League in 1993-94 and the team is 4-6 against Youngstown State.
• Saint Francis will face a Horizon League team on the road for the first time 2012-13 and is looking for its first win against the conference since defeating Youngstown State 66-65 on November 29, 2009 on the road.
• The Red Flash is looking for its first road win of the season. The last time the team did not win a road game in non-conference play was in 2018-19. The Loretto program lost all seven games on the road in non-conference play and went 4-0 at home, but went on to win the NEC regular season with a 12-6 record in league play and went 18-15 overall in 2018-19.
• Sitting on three non-conference wins, the Frankies are looking to win four non-conference games for the second-straight year.
• Under Krimmel, Saint Francis has won at least three non-conference games in seven of his first 10 seasons and four contests six times. The team only played two non-conference games during the COVID-19 shortened 2020-21 campaign.
• The game against Robert Morris will complete the non-conference slate for the Loretto program. The team will start NEC play after the Christmas break with home games against Central Connecticut State and Stonehill on December 29 and 31, respectively.
