Men’s and Women’s Tennis Prepares for Duquesne and Youngstown State, Women Also Faces Bowling Green

LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis University men's and women's tennis gears up for a five-match weekend total, three for the women and two for the men. Both teams play at Duquesne and Youngstown State, while the women have an additional match against Bowling Green.

Women's Last Time Out
The Red Flash won their third straight match with a 4-3 defeat of St. Bonaventure on Feb. 13. Anouk Ma-Ajong earned her fourth singles win of the season in. 6-4, 6-2 No. 2 victory. Romina Cutipa moved to 5-1 in her last six matches with a 6-4, 6-1 No. 4 singles win. Anoek Pruijmboom won her fifth straight No. 6 singles match with a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Saint Francis lost the doubles point despite a No. 1 victory from Dominique Yeo and Ma-Ajong, 6-3.
 
Scouting Duquesne
The Dukes are 1-3 in the spring season, their only win a 6-1 defeat of Mount St. Mary's. Duquesne's three losses came to Cleveland State, Toledo and West Virginia. Margot Pessy leads the Dukes in the No. 1 singles spot and is 2-2 on the season. She recorded the only point for Duquesne in its 6-1 loss at West Virginia.
 
All-Time vs. Duquesne
The Dukes hold a 6-0 all-time record over the Red Flash. The most recent matchup was played on March 12, 2021, while the first matchup appeared on Feb. 22, 2012. The Red Flash had their smallest margin of defeat in a 5-2 loss on Jan. 27, 2019.
 
Scouting St. Youngstown State
The Penguins are 2-4 in the spring and are riding a current three-game losing streak. Their two wins came 5-2 over UTEP and 4-3 over Weber State, both games played in Las Vegas. Cecilia Rosas leads Youngstown State in the No. 1 singles spot and is 2-6 since a Jan. 29 matchup against Toledo. In No. 1 doubles, the duo of Rosas and partner Julia Marko is 3-2.
 
All-Time vs. Youngstown State
The Penguins hold a 7-0 all-time advantage over the Red Flash. Saint Francis first played Youngstown State on Feb. 20, 2011 and last played on Feb. 27, 2021. The Red Flash twice had their lowest margin of defeat, 5-2 losses.
 
Scouting Bowling Green
The Falcons own a 1-3 record and started the spring season with three-straight losses to Notre Dame, Purdue and Indianapolis. They won their most recent match 6-1 over Findlay on Feb. 13. Ioanna Tsadari leads the Falcons in the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles positions. She is 1-3 in singles and 1-3 in doubles this season.
 
All-Time vs. Bowling Green
The Falcons hold a 1-0 all-time advantage over the Red Flash. The only match was played on Feb. 20, 2020 in a 6-1 defeat. Current Red Flash players Ma-Ajong and Cutpia participated in No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively.

Men's Last Time Out
The Red Flash fell in a close match to St. Bonaventure, 4-3. Fabio Varella won in No. 1 singles 5-7, 7-6, 6-2, while Daniel Vinces won 6-4, 6-3 in his No. 3 singles match. Matt Blose capped off Saint Franics' points with a 6-4, 6-2 victory in No. 4 singles. Despite the doubles point loss, Jordi Garcia and Samuel Ghigiarelli produced a win in No. 3 doubles. The day was Ghigiarelli's first appearance of the spring season.
 
Scouting Duquesne
The Dukes are 2-1 in the spring season, with victories over Mount St. Mary's and Carnegie Mellon. Duquesne's only loss came in a Feb. 5 matchup with Carnegie Mellon. Kaipo Marshall leads the Dukes in the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles spots. He is 3-0 in No. 1 doubles and 1-2 in No. 1 doubles with two different partners.  
 
All-Time vs. Duquesne
The Dukes hold a 4-1 all-time advantage over the Red Flash. The first matchup was played on Feb. 22, 2012, while the last was played on March 12, 2021. Saint Francis' win came in a 4-3 victory on April 2, 2017.
 
Scouting Youngstown State
The Penguins hold a 1-5 record in the spring season with their only win a 5-2 defeat of Marquette. They have faced one mutual opponent as Saint Francis, Navy, and narrowly lost to the Midshipmen 4-3. All-six of Youngstown State's matches have been decided by either 5-2 or 4-3.  
 
All-Time vs. Youngstown State
The Penguins own a 9-1 record over the Red Flash. The first matchup between the programs was played on Feb. 2, 2008 and the last matchup was played on Feb. 26, 2021. Saint Francis' only victory came in one of its three home matches in the head-to-head history on Feb. 12, 2016, 4-3.
