LORETTO, Pa. –
Josh Cohen (Lincroft, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy), a member of the Saint Francis University men's basketball team, has been named the Northeast Conference Most Improved Player.
Cohen, who averaged 5.7 points and 4.6 rebounds per game last season, is averaging 12.9 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in his breakout second campaign. The 6-9 redshirt sophomore has posted 18 double-figure point games including four 20-point games in 2021-22. He has posted seven games with at least 18 points including four in his last seven games and at least 19 points in his last three games. Cohen has also recorded seven games with at least seven rebounds in his last eight contests.
Cohen ranks second in the circuit in field goal percentage (57.5) and second in offensive rebounds (2.77), 10th in rebounding (7.0 rpg.) and 14th in scoring (12.9 ppg.).
Cohen is the only player on the team to earn NEC Player of the Week honors this season when he shared the honor on Dec. 13. The New Jersey native was also named a Prime Performer on Nov. 29, Dec. 13, Feb 7 and Feb. 21.
The NEC started the Most Improved Player Award for the 2009-10 season and Cohen becomes the fourth player to earn the honor, joining Andre Wofford (2017-18), Earl Brown (2012-13) and Scott Eatherton (2011-12).
Saint Francis returns to action in the NEC Quarterfinals on Wednesday on the road at Wagner College. Game time is 7 p.m.
