Men’s and Women’s Tennis Earn ITA All-Academic Team, 19 Players Named Scholar-Athletes

LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis University men's and women's tennis were named Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I All-Academic Teams, the organization announced Monday. 11 men and eight women's players were also named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
 
"The ITA Academic Awards for both the men's and women's teams are another recognition of the hard work both teams do in the classroom," said assistant coach Philip Palko. "It also reinforces the quality of student-athlete we want to represent Saint Francis."
 
To qualify as an All-Academic Team selection, teams must carry a combined GPA of 3.2 or higher and individuals must carry a 3.5 or higher. 19 of an eligible 20 players between the men's and women's programs were named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
 
Women's tennis was named the Northeast Conference Team GPA Award winner on June 23 with the highest GPA amongst women's tennis programs. Six women's tennis players were also named to the NEC Spring Commissioner's Honor Roll, composed of students with a 3.75 GPA or higher.
 
Men's tennis' Matt Blose was named one of three NEC Male Team Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year on June 21 for his perfect 4.0 GPA. Six men's players were named to the NEC Spring Commissioner's Honor Roll.
 
"We welcome a nice group of new players in the fall and our expectation is to continue to see high achievement academically as well as on court success," said Palko.
 
Saint Francis will look towards the 2022-23 season with 10 new members – six women and four men.
