Late Fourth-Quarter Comeback Falls Short For Red Flash Field Hockey In Double OT Against Brown

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Saint Francis University field hockey rallied to score two goals in the final two minutes of regulation to force overtime against Brown University in non-conference field hockey action on Friday. The Bears scored in the 72nd minute to earn a 4-3 win in double overtime.
>> Eva Valentini (Junin, Argentina) posted a goal and an assist including the game-tying goal with 22 seconds left in regulation.
>> Chloe Butz (Stroudsburg, Pa.) notched her first career goal and Olivia Muffitt (Newport, Pa.) found the twine for the third time in her career.
>> Julia Breneman (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) dished out a career-high two assists on the afternoon.

TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
The Red Flash furious comeback to close out regulation and send the game to overtime, the Bears posted all five shots in the two overtime periods and scored the decisive goal at the 71:40 mark in the second extra session.
  
FLASH MOMENTS
Trailing 2-0 in final minute of the third quarter, Madison Waldspurger (Hatfield, Pa.) had her shot deflected to Breneman, who found Muffitt in front of the cage and she scored with eight seconds left in the third period.
 
After a Bears goal, the comeback started when Butz made a diving shot to her right off a pass from Valentini that found the back of the cage with 1:51 left in the match. 
 
Saint Francis then scored off a set play on a penalty corner with 22 seconds left. Caileen Quinn (Walspole, Mass.) served the ball to Breneman, who then set up Valentini to fire the game-tying marker. The Red Flash did not record a shot in overtime.
 
FLASH NUGGETS
Valentini, who scored the squad's first goal of the season against Ball State on week ago, registered her second career game when she registered a goal and an assist in a match. The 2021 All-Northeast Conference second-team performer now has 10 goals and seven assists for 27 points in her career.
 
Breneman, who did not register an assist in 2021, leads the team with three assists in 2022. The junior has six goals and three assists for 15 points in her career. Quinn notched her second assist of her career after teaming with Breneman on Valentini's goal against Ball State.
 
Muffitt had two goals against Bryant last season and now has three tallies for her career, while Butz enjoyed the feeling of her first collegiate score.
 
Amber Bryan (Thorndale, Pa.) made three saves in 41:40 minutes of action. She played the first 30 minutes and all 11:40 of the extra session. Chloe South (California, Md.) played the second half and did not register a stop.
