BOX SCORE 2 LEWISBURG, Pa. – Saint Francis University men's and women's tennis began the 2022-23 season at the Bucknell Invitational Sept. 2-4. The men went 20-12 in singles and 9-6 in doubles, while the women went 16-16 in singles and 9-5 in doubles.
In his Saint Francis debut, graduate student
Adam Kush led Saint Francis with four singles victories that made him the Men's "A" Bracket Champion. He also went 2-1 in singles matches to cap off his 6-1 opening weekend.
Kelly Dowuona, in her collegiate debut, won three singles matches and made an appearance in the Women's "A" Backet Championship before she fell 2-6, 3-6 in the finals. She went 2-1 in doubles matches with partner
Bente Vandeputte and finished 5-2 in her collegiate-opening weekend.
Nagisa Miyake and
Samantha Quezada went a perfect 3-0 in the Women's "B" Doubles and were the champion of that bracket. The duo went a combined 18-4 in their three-match dominance.
After he appeared in just two matches during the spring 2022 season, sophomore
Matt Kozar appeared in nine matches at the Bucknell Invitational. He went 4-1 in singles and 3-1 in doubles with two partners,
Andrew Teixeira and
Drake Redman.
Three men's freshmen, Redman,
Patrick Reese,
Gregory Troyan, and six women's freshmen, Dowuona,
Caroline Grindle, Quezada,
Sydney Tamondong,
Jessie Thepsouvan and
Mallory Thomas, earned their first collegiate singles victory over the weekend.
Both men's and women's tennis return to action at the Bloomsburg Invitational Sept. 10-11.
