Men's Volleyball Set to Take on No. 1 Hawaii

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Saint Francis University men's volleyball will head to No. 1 Hawaii to take on the Rainbow Warriors on Jan. 18 and 20. Both games are scheduled for an 11:59 PM EST. / 7:00 PM HAST start.

THE WORD ON THE RAINBOW WARRIORS
Hawaii earned last season's NCAA National Championship title after defeating Long Beach State in straight sets.

The team started off the 2023 season by defeating Ball State at home in back-to-back four set wins for the Rainbow Warriors to start off 2-0 overall. Sypors Chakas led Hawaii as an outside hitter in the team's first matches with 41 kills. Jakob Thelle led the team as a setter with 101 assists, while Brett Sheward led defensively with 24 digs.
 
LAST TIME WE MET THE RAINBOW WARRIORS
The Red Flash and Rainbow Warriors men's volleyball teams have met once in 2019. Hawaii came out on top in straight sets in the Charlotte, N.C. tournament, hosted by Queens University.  
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Red Flash opened the 2023 season up at Stanford for two matches against The Cardinal. Saint Francis dropped both games, the first in four sets and the second in a five-set thriller.
 
Nathan Zini led the team offensively with 26 kills, while posting ten digs and seven blocks to allow the sophomore to earn his first NEC Player of the Week award. In addition, Brady Stump earned his first NEC Rooke of the Week award after recording 25 kills, three service aces, six digs and three total blocks to put up 29.5 points for the Red Flash.
 
UP NEXT
Following the team's matches in Hawaii, the Red Flash will head to Cambridge, MA to take on McKendree and North Greenville on Jan. 27 and 28.
