Former Saint Francis men's volleyball standout Michael Marshman has traveled with the United States Men's National Team for the third week of the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) in Chiba, Japan.
It is the third and final week of the preliminary round, but this is the first time Marshman has traveled to a competition. Marshman did not see action in the first game of the week against Turkey on Tuesday, but could play in one of the three competitions the rest of the week: Thursday vs. Argentina (2:30 a.m.); Saturday vs. Germany (6:30 a.m.); Sunday vs. Japan (6:20 a.m.). Matches will be shown live on VBTV and either CBS Sports Network or the Big Ten Network.
The VNL features the world's top 18 men's teams clashing over three weeks of preliminary play, with the top eight advancing to the Final Round.
The U.S. has medaled four times at the VNL, including silver medals in 2019, 2022, and 2023, and a bronze medal in 2018.
Marshman first competed in the VNL in 2024, where he was a part of the team during the first round of action. The former 2016 AVCA All-American Honorable Mention has also represented the U.S. in the last two Pan American Cups.
During Marshman's time at Loretto from 2013 to 2016, in addition to his AVCA selection, he was a three-time All-Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) selection. He was a first-team honoree in his final two seasons (2015-16) and earned second-team honors in 2014.
In the 91 matches the former middle blocker played in, he tallied 304 blocks, which ranks seventh all-time in the program's history. He also accumulated 596 kills, 53 service aces, and a .386 hitting percentage.
Along with his time on the national team, Marshman has been on five international teams since graduating from Saint Francis. His most recent stop was for France's Tours Volleyball club during the 2024-25 season.
