Saint Francis dropped its first match of the season 7-0 at Navy on Jan. 21.
Fabio Varella had a narrow 3-6, 6-2, [3-10] loss in No. 1 singles to Navy's Sasha Panyan. Freshman
Patrick Reese had the closest margin of defeat by a Red Flash player with his 6-3, 5-7, [6-10] loss in No. 6 singles to Andreas Ballesteros. Saint Francis was swept in all-three doubles matches played.
Scouting Penn State
Penn State enters Saturday's match with a 2-0 record after 6-1 victories over Delaware and Georgetown last weekend. Sam Bossem leads Penn State with a 7-5 singles record combined from the spring and fall season. Charl Morgan carries a 2-0 record in the spring with a win in No. 1 and No. 2 singles. The doubles team of Malik Bhatnagar and Morgan won both its No. 1 doubles matches this spring, while Bossem and Loren Byers won both their No. 2 doubles matches.
All-Time vs. Penn State
The Nittany Lions hold a 2-0 all-time advantage over the Red Flash with both matches played since 2020. Penn State defeated Saint Francis 6-1 in a match at the Ebensburg Tennis Center last season.
Christian Banti earned the only Saint Francis victory with a 6-3, 6-4 win in No. 6 singles.
Zachary Palko also earned a No. 3 doubles victory 7-6 [7-4] with since-graduated
Daniel Vinces.
