Saint Francis men's soccer (6-0-6, 4-0-2 NEC) will close out their regular season home schedule Sunday afternoon as they welcome Northeast Conference opponent Merrimack to Stokes Soccerplex for Senior Day. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
for their contributions to the men's soccer program during their time at Saint Francis.
The Red Flash are on a two-match win streak coming into Sunday's match. The team defeated Sacred Heart, 2-0 in Connecticut from a
Maximus Rigby brace.
For his performance, Rigby was named NEC Player of the Week. Freshman
Joschi Schelb earned Rookie of the Week and junior
Patrick Heron picked up a Prime Performer.
Saint Francis is one of two teams in the country that are without a loss this season (SIUE and SFU) as of Friday, October 27.
THE WORD ON THE WARRIORS
Merrimack is 4-7-2 overall and 2-3-1 in conference play under the direction of head coach Tony Martone who is in his 42nd season with the Warriors. The team has picked up NEC victories over Howard, 6-0 and Stonehill, 4-1. The Warriors are coming off a 3-1 loss against nonconference Northeastern University.
Sophomore Laurie Goddard leads the team offensively with eight goals and 18 points. The midfielder has started every match for the Warriors this season.
Senior Juri Schlingmann leads the NEC with his seven assist on the season. He also has three goals.
Goalkeeper Alvaro Rodriguez has started in net for nine matches this season. He has collected 33 saves and one shutout.
The Warriors were voted to finish third in the NEC and are currently in sixth place with seven points.
LAST TIME WE MET
The Warriors defeated the Red Flash last season, 2-0, in North Andover, Massachusetts in the conference opener. Merrimack leads the all-time series 3-0.
