Swimming Beats YSU and Niagara in Tri-Meet

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>>Saint Francis beat both Youngstown State and Niagara in a tri-meet at Youngstown State. The Red Flash beat the Penguins 165.5-96.5 and defeated the Purple Eagles 135-127.

>>Saint Francis had many top-three finishes, including wins in the 200-yard medley relay, 200-yard butterfly, 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly and 400-yard freestyle relay.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Red Flash started the meet on a high note, taking first and third in the 200-yard medley relay. Bridget Kurtzweil (Avon, Ohio), Oksana Horova (Kraków, Poland), Sara Turner (Enola, Pa.) and Anna Bernasconi (Albany, N.Y.) took the top spot with a time of 1:49.29. The third-place relay team of Inde Patterson (Moon Township, Pa.), Kathryn Tanis (Reading, Pa.), Laryssa Webster (Bradford, Pa.) and Reegan Brown (Acme, Pa.) finished at 1:51.63.  

Aurem Pifarre (Balaguer, Spain) placed second in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:42.90. She also took third in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking in at 5:10.68.

Natalie Glessner (Elizabeth, Pa.) and Nicole López Kohlmann (Mexico City, Mexico) were awarded second and third in the 200-yard freestyle with times of 1:55.70 and 1:57.30, respectively.

Patterson and Kurtzweil found themselves in the top three in the 100-yard backstroke. Patterson took second with a time of 59.09. Kurtzweil placed third, clocking in at 59.49. Later in the meet, Kurtzweil also took third in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:09.67.

Krysta Weik (Lebanon, Pa.) placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.09. She also earned third in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing with a time of 2:13.44.

Turner also took home two individual wins in the 200-yard butterfly and 100-yard butterfly. She finished with times of 2:09.76 and 59.75 in the two events.

Bernasconi won the 50-yard freestyle, clocking in at 24.48.

Horova placed second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.18.

In the final event, the Red Flash had two top-three finishes in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Bernasconi, Glessner, López Kohlmann and Horova won with a time of 3:36.04. Pifarre, Tanis, Brown and Sara Blanco (Madrid, Spain) placed third, clocking in at 3:43.42.

UP NEXT
The Red Flash will have their first home meet of the season on November 4 at 10 a.m.
