LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis track and field's Marie-Therese Cooper has been named Northeast Conference (NEC) Women's Field Athlete of the Week and Sydney Rush was named Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Thursday. The two also earned Prime Performer selections, with David Niang being named one as well.
Cooper finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 11.86m (38' 11"), the best in the NEC last weekend. She automatically qualifies for the ECAC Championships with that score. The graduate student is now second all-time in Saint Francis history in the triple jump, and is 5.5" away from the record. She also placed 10th in the NEC with a personal-best mark of 5.20m (17' 0.75"), which was fourth in the NEC.
Rush, in her collegiate debut, took seventh in the 60m dash with a time of 7.80, good for fourth in the NEC. Her time automatically qualifies her for the ECAC Championships. She also is now eighth all-time in SFU history in the 60m dash.The freshman also placed 13th in the long jump with a mark of 5.11m (16' 9.25"), which was good for sixth in the NEC.
Niang finished first in the 60m hurdles with an NEC-leading time of 7.97. He automatically qualifies for the IC4A Championships and is now third all-time in Saint Francis history in the event.
Indoor Track and Field will compete at the Nittany Lion Challenge hosted by Penn State on Saturday, January 13.
