THE WORD ON THE SHARKS
LIU comes into Saturday's match 4-4 overall. The Sharks will take on Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday, Feb. 17 for the team's first conference matchup before facing the Red Flash.
The Sharks have competed in a tough non-conference schedule featuring two ranked teams in No. 3 Long Beach State and No. 11 Loyola Chicago. LIU fell to both ranked opponents but was able to claim a set over the Ramblers. The Sharks were picked to finish third in the NEC.
Luke Chandler leads LIU in three statistical categories this season with 87 kills, 42 digs and eight service aces. Andre Aguilar leads the team as the setter with 152 assists on the season, while Arthur Sueur stands on top as the middle blocker with 19.0 total blocks this season.
LAST TIME WE MET THE SHARKS
The Sharks and Red Flash met for the first time twice last year as last season was the inaugural season for LIU men's volleyball. The Red Flash won both home and away matches in straight sets.
LAST TIME OUT
The Red Flash most recently competed in its first NEC game last week with a straight set win over Fairleigh Dickinson. Proceeding the teams win over FDU, the Red Flash returned home to take on former EIVA foe, No.3 Penn State and held the Nittany Lions in a five-set thriller.
Ryan Parker and
Brandon Dunz stood out for the Red Flash last weekend. Parker was named the NEC Player of the Week and Dunz was named the NEC Defensive Player of the Week. Parker led the Red Flash as a setter last weekend to notch 60 assists over just seven sets. Dunz led the Red Flash defensively this week with 9.0 blocks over eight sets.
Parker leads the Red Flash in three statistical categories this season with 256 assists, 10 service aces and 47 digs.
Nathan Zini leads the teams as an outside hitter with 103 kills, while
Thomas Leahey stands out as the middle blocker with 32.0 blocks on the season.

Following this weekend's matches, the Red Flash will begin a four-game NEC home stretch starting with a matchup against Sacred Heart on Friday, Feb. 24 at 6:00 p.m.
