After de Castro cut the margin in half in the 33rd minute, Saint Francis had three shots by de Castro,
Julia Breneman (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) and
Eva Valentini (Junin, Argentina) go wide in the third quarter trying to even the score.
Madison Waldspurger (Hatfield, Pa.), who had an assist in the game against Miami (Ohio) on Saturday, had two shots on penalty corners in the fourth quarter. The sophomore's first shot was wide before she had a chance stopped by the Indiana netminder at 56:39. The Hoosiers put the game away with a goal 66 seconds later with their third goal of the afternoon in the second meeting between the two teams.
FLASH MOMENTS
de Castro, the current Northeast Conference (NEC) Co-Rookie of the Week, found the back of the cage early in the second half off a feed from Zavaleta at 32:43 to trim the margin to 2-1.
Amber Bryan (Thorndale, Pa.), the current NEC Defensive Player of the Week, had two stops in the loss.
FLASH NUGGETS
de Castro, who scored two goals in the 6-0 season-opening win against Queens on August 25, notched her third tally of the season and her first away from Loretto.
Zavaleta has registered a point in three of the first five games for the Red Flash, including a goal and an assist on the weekend. She has four goals and 11 assists for 19 points in her career and has recorded four goals and four assists for 12 points in non-conference play in her career.
The 2014 team holds the standard for best start in program history after winning its first eight games, but the 3-2 start is the second-best start to start a campaign. The squad has won three of its first five games for the fifth time in team history (2012, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2023).
Saint Francis has played three games in the last four games and will continue its busy schedule with two games over the next week to start the season with seven games in the first 15 days of the season.
