Men's and Women's Tennis To Open 2024 Season at Navy

LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis University men's and women's tennis both open their 2024 campaign against Navy on Saturday, January 20. Women's tennis will face the Midshipmen at 3:00 p.m., while Men's tennis will play Navy at 6:00 p.m. Both matches will be hosted at Tose Family Tennis Center in Annapolis, Md.

Women's Tennis Quick Hits
The Red Flash competed in two dual matches throughout the fall, losing 6-1 to Buffalo and defeating NEC newcomer Binghamton 7-0 to finish the fall at 1-1. Diana Zuba opened her collegiate career with a 9-2 singles record and NEC Rookie of the Month honors for the month of October. Zuba also went 7-4 in doubles action.

Nagisa Miyake and Samantha Quezada both went 6-3 in singles during the fall, and Miyake, Quezada, Sara Jankovic, Kelly Dowuona and Reagen Mangan all had six doubles wins as well.

Zuba and Mangan were the pairing with the most wins in the fall, going 6-3. Jankovic and Dowuona were not too far behind them with a record of 5-2. The pairing of Quezada and Mallory Thomas finished a perfect 3-0 on the fall.
 
Scouting Navy Women's Tennis
The Midshipmen competed exclusively in tournaments throughout the fall, but will have a dual match against St. Bonaventure on Saturday morning under their belt by the time they play the Red Flash that afternoon.
Emily Tannebaum had an impressive singles record of 15-5 on the fall for the Midshipmen. Sia Chaudry and Stella Ribaudo Navy each notched 10 singles wins of their own for Navy. Tannebaum and Ribaudo also both went 8-6 overall in doubles on the fall.  
The pairing of Olivia Fermo and Makaila Cheng went a team-best 9-1 in doubles for Navy throughout the fall, while Sylvia Eklund and Anna Jordan posted a 7-1 record as a pair.

All-Time vs. Navy Women's Tennis
The all-time series between Saint Francis and Navy is 13-0 in favor of the Midshipmen. The two teams last met on January 21, 2023 in a 6-1 Navy win. Valeria Vinces recorded a victory for the Red Flash from the No. 4 spot in Singles, winning 6-0, 3-6, 6-3.

Men's Tennis Quick Hits
Saint Francis will have its first dual match since last spring after competing in five tournaments throughout the fall. Alan Gonzalez led the Red Flash this fall in singles wins with a 7-4 record. Tyler Nguyen and Patrick Reese were not far behind Gonzalez with 6-3 records.

Nguyen and Kevin Kruzel finished the fall season a perfect 6-0 in doubles action as a pair. Kruzel and Zachary Palko were the next best pairing for the Red Flash in the fall with a record of 3-1. Kruzel finished the fall with an overall doubles record of 10-2 and was named an NEC Prime Performer in the month of October.
 
Scouting Navy Men's Tennis
Navy also competed exclusively in tournaments throughout the fall, but will have three dual matches before they meet the Red Flash. Two will be against Penn on Friday, January 19 and the third will be against St. Bonaventure at noon on Saturday. J.J. Etterbeek leads the Midshipmen with a 10-2 record entering the weekend. Etterbeek is also 6-4 overall in doubles action. Tommy Kim leads Navy in doubles wins with an 8-2 record, Jason Kim and Herrick Legaspi both have 7-4 doubles records as well.
 
All-Time vs. Navy Men's Tennis
Saturday's match against Navy will be the 11th time the two men's programs have met, with the last meeting occurring on January 21, 2023. The Midshipmen lead the all-time series 9-1. The Red Flash's sole win came in a 4-3 victory on January 16, 2016.
The pairing of Alec Dylan Foo-Kune and Washi Gervais picked up a 7-5 doubles win, as did Plamen Avuski and Jan Vit Suntar in a 6-3 win. Gervais, Suntar and Avuski all won their singles matches to clinch the Red Flash win.
 
Next
Saint Francis women's tennis returns to action on January 27 win their first home match of the season against Western Michigan. The Red Flash will host the Broncos at Alpha Tennis and Fitness Center at 4:00 p.m.

The next match for Saint Francis men's tennis is also on January 27, where they hit the road to play Bucknell at 1:00 p.m.
