Men's and Women's Tennis Set to Take On Bucknell and Western Michigan

LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis University men's and women's tennis are set for two matches on Saturday, Jan. 27, one for each team. Women's tennis will host Western Michigan at Alpha Fitness Center in Harmar, Pa., while Men's tennis heads east for an in-state clash with Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pa.

Women's Tennis Quick Hits
The Red Flash enter the weekend with a 1-2 record after falling 7-0 to Navy last weekend in Annapolis. Sara Jankovic had the strongest performance for Saint Franics against the Midshipmen, losing 2-6, 7-6, 5-10 from the No. 3 singles slot.
 In the 2023-24 season, Diana Zuba leads the team in singles wins with nine. Nagisa Miyake and Samantha Quezada each have six singles wins to their name.
Zuba leads the team in doubles wins as well with seven. Miyake, Quezada, Kelly Dowuona, Sara Jankovic and Reagen Mangan all sit just behind Zuba with six doubles wins each.
 
Scouting Western Michigan
The Broncos enter the matchup with a 1-1 record, defeating Ferris State 7-0 and losing 5-2 to Indiana. Both matches occurred during the spring season. Karin Hamilton and Audrey Smitek each have two wins on the spring season.
 
All-Time vs. Western Michigan
The Red Flash and the Broncos have will meet for the first time in this matchup. Saint Francis have played nine combined matches against teams from the MAC.

Men's Tennis Quick Hits
Saint Francis dropped its first dual match of the 2023-24 season on the road against Navy last weekend, 5-2. Alan Gonzalez and Gregory Troyan each earned a win from the No. 3 and No. 6 spots respectively. Gonzalez won 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 and Troyan won 6-4, 6-3.
Gonzalez leads the Red Flash in wins during the 2023-24 season with eight. Patrick Reese and Tyler Nguyen trail him with six singles wins apiece.

Kevin Kruzel leads Saint Francis in doubles wins with 10 on the season. Nguyen is right behind him with nine doubles wins in 2023-24.
 
Scouting Bucknell
Bucknell has not played a dual match in the 2023-24 season, and will kick off both their Dual and Spring slate against the Red Flash.
Oscar Bain leads the Bison in singles wins with 10 on the year. He is trailed by Liam Kilmer, Amar Tahirovic and Tim Zelikovsky, all of whom have nine singles wins under their belts.
Tahirovic owns the team lead in doubles wins for Bucknell with 13. Bain sits just behind him with 12.
 
All-Time vs. Bucknell
Saint Francis trails Bucknell 9-4 in the all-time series between the two teams.
The last Red Flash win came in 2018 in a tight 4-3 contest. Saint Francis took the doubles point with wins from the No. 2 and No. 3 spot, while Franz Luna, Alec Dylan Foo-Kune, Sebastian Pinos and Eduardo Garcia all won their matches from the No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 spots respectively.
 
Next
Women's tennis will make the short trek to State College to play Penn State on Friday, Feb. 2 before returning home where they and the Men's team will host LeMoyne on Sunday, Feb. 4. The women's team will play at Ebensburg Tennis Center, while the men will play at Gorilla House Gym in Altoona.
