Men's Soccer Set For NEC Semifinal Vs. LIU

LORETTO, Pa. - Saint Francis men's soccer is set to host no. 3 seeded LIU in the Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament Semifinal on Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m.

Saint Francis So Far In 2024
Saint Francis enters the match at 7-6-2 and 5-2-1 in the NEC following their loss to FDU on Nov. 7. The Red Flash are the no. 2 seed in the NEC Tournament.

Joschi Schelb leads the squad in goals, assists and points with nine goals, eight assists and 26 points. Schelb leads the NEC in points, points per game and assists. With one point against the Sharks, Schelb will move into sole possesion of fifth place all-time in program history for points in a season.

Fabian Wagner has been a big offensive presence as well for the Red Flash, tallying 18 points from seven goals and four assists so far this year.

Niclas Becker has made 37 saves on the year, maintains a 1.30 goals against average and holds a .740 save percentage.

The Word on LIU
The Sharks enter the match as the no. 3 seed in the NEC Tournament following a regular season campaign that saw them finish 7-4-6 on the year and 4-1-3 in the NEC table. LIU leapfrogged Le Moyne in the NEC table by defeating them 2-1 on the final matchday of the season.

Alan Martinez and Stephane Njike are tied for the team lead in points with 10 apiece. Martinez has four goals and two assists and Njike has three goals and four assists. Jesper Mikkelsen and Niklas Thanhofer each have nine points, both scoring four goals and assisting on one.

Eoin Gawronski has played all but 70 minutes between the woodwork for LIU this season. He maintains a goals-against average of 1.05 and a save percentage of .767.

Last Time We Met
Saint Francis and LIU met on back on Oct. 6 in a match that ended in a 1-1 draw. LIU scored three minutes in via a Martinez goal, and Alex De Nittis equalized in the 84th minute.

Around The NEC
FDU and Le Moyne square off in New Jersey at 7 p.m. in the second NEC Semifinal. The winner of that match will meet the winner of Saint Francis-LIU for a shot at the NEC crown and an NCAA Tournament berth.
