Valentino Pinedo and
Bobby Rosenberger III, members of the Saint Francis men's basketball team, have been named Northeast Conference Prime Performers for November 11-17. It is the third time in Rosenberger's career he has been named a Prime Performer.
Pinedo narrowly missed averaging a double-double after finishing with 9.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game in two games in the week. Despite being 6-8, the junior was going up against some Penn State players who were taller than him, and he was still able to register his first double-double with 11 points and a career-high 12 rebounds on Tuesday against the Nittany Lions. Pinedo became the third player under head coach
Rob Krimmel to register a double-double against a Power 5 team, and the 12 boards were the most against a Power 5 school in the last 13 years. On Saturday, Pinedo added eight points and eight rebounds against Mount St. Mary's. Six of his eight points came in the final six minutes to help cut the margin to four points. Pinedo shot 64.3 percent from the floor (9-for-14) in the two games and added five steals, three assists and two blocks. He had three steals in the first half against the Mount to register a new career high. He has registered at least eight points in his last four games.
Rosenberger posted identical numbers of 14 points and five rebounds in both games this week against Penn State on Tuesday and Mount St. Mary's on Saturday. The sophomore captain, who recorded a then career-high of 19 points in last year's meeting with the Nittany Lions, shot 40.9 percent from the floor (9-for-22), 30.0 percent from behind the arc (3-for-10) and 87.5 percent (7-for-8) from the free throw line, while also adding four assists in the two games. After posting 10 points in the first three games of the year, Rosenberger has recorded 14 points in his last two games.
Saint Francis returns to action with Wednesday's 2023-24 home opener against Penn State Schuylkill. Tipoff is 7 p.m.
