LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis University men's and women's tennis prepare for their matches on Feb. 9 and Feb. 11. The women's team plays three times while the men play twice.
The women will head east for another interstate dual match against Bucknell on Friday at 5:00 p.m. in Lewisburg, Pa. and host both Colgate and Frostburg State on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. respectively in Ebensburg.
The men's team will head west to Greensburg for their interstate dual match against Carnegie Mellon on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and host Colgate at 12:00 p.m. in Sunday in Altoona.
Women's Tennis Quick Hits
Saint Francis heads into the weekend with a 3-4 overall record and has won two matches in a row, both coming last Sunday against Le Moyne and Bloomsburg. Diana Zuba currently leads the Red Flash with an 11-4 record in singles matches on the year. Kelly Dowuona leads the team in doubles wins on the season with a 9-5 record. The pairing of Dowuona and Kally Kadzinski have won three consecutive matches.
Scouting Bucknell
The Bison are 1-5 entering the match. Last time out, they came up short on the road against Richmond in a 6-1 loss. Anna Lajos leads the team in singles wins with 10, while Abby Platt and Whitney King are tied for the team lead in doubles wins with 12 apiece. Platt and King are the top doubles pair for the Bison so far this season with an impressive 12-1 record.
All-Time vs. Bucknell
Saint Francis is 4-7 all-time against Bucknell, but won the last match between the two schools in a 4-3 victory last year. Dowuona and Valeria Vinces picked up two crucial wins in that match for the Red Flash from the No. 3 and 5 slots respectively.
Scouting Colgate
Colgate enters the weekend with a 3-1 record. Every one of their dual matches this year have been against NEC schools. The Raiders have wins over Wagner, Le Moyne and Merrimack, and will play their fifth match of the season when they visit Duquesne before they meet the Red Flash on Feb. 11.
All-Time vs. Colgate
Saint Francis have won each of their three previous meetings with Colgate. They beat the Raiders 5-2 in last year's matchup, where Vinces and Marie Discini each picked up wins in both doubles and singles.
Scouting Frostburg State
The Bobcats are 3-1 on the year but have yet to play a match in the spring. They will play their first match of the spring on Friday against Slippery Rock before taking on the Red Flash.
All-Time vs. Frostburg State
Sunday's match will mark the first ever meeting between Saint Francis and Frostburg State.
Men's Tennis Quick Hits
Saint Francis enters their matches this weekend at 1-2 on the season. Alan Gonzalez leads the Red Flash in singles competition this year with an 9-5 overall record.
Tyler Nguyen and Kevin Kruzel each have 10 doubles wins on the year. Kruzel and Nguyen are the pairing with the best record at a perfect 6-0 record.
Scouting Carnegie Mellon
The Tartans enter the weekend at 1-0 on the year after a 9-0 win over Oberlin last Saturday. Raghav Jangbahadur leads Carnegie Mellon in singles wins with an 11-1 record on the year. Jangbahadur and Daniel Kong lead the team in doubles wins with a 9-2 record so far this season.
All-Time vs. Carnegie Mellon
Saint Francis is 2-6 all-time against the Tartans, with their last win coming in 2021. In last year's matchup, Carnegie Mellon won 7-2. Gregory Troyan and Adam Kush won their doubles match in the No. 1 spot, 8-6.
Scouting Colgate
The Raiders enter the weekend at 1-3 on the year. Benito Vlassis and Josh Israel are 3-1 as a doubles tandem so far this season and Valssis leads the team in overall wins with five.
All-Time vs. Colgate
The Red Flash are 1-2 all-time against Colgate. They won last year's match in a narrow 4-3 win. Marc Fuste, Gregory Troyan, Zachary Palko and Patrick Reese all earned doubles wins. Fuste and Troyan also won their singles matches from the No. 2 and 5 slots respectively.
